Do the amount of kids from your school applying matter?

If there are a lot of kids from my school applying to a particular university, does this lower my chances?

anyone hav a clue?

Yes. What school are you currently attending? What school(s) are you applying for?

i dont think so. if it gets to the point where they need / want people from more diverse places then maybe.
i think they would rather go by people who ARE diverse, rather than which area they are from. (like a zambian or something)

Yeah it does.
The best public university in my state rejects extremely qualified applicants from my highschool simply because there are so many.
Smaller private universities are worse I think, I doubt they would accept more than a few from one highschool.

Some colleges have high school quotas and some don't.

i think this is more of a case with public schools that private schools.

I live in Vermont, and my school will send about 7 or 8 to UVM each year, but they cap our admittance at about 20. For this reason, I'm not applying to UVM because I don't want to bump out some of my friends who are on the edge.

(class of 52 people)

But 20 out of 52 is ALOT

Most schools will tell you they don't have limits on high schools. However, they really do, which is revealed in their policies of evaluating how each student performed in the context of his or her environment. If there are ten very qualified applicants from one high school, they'll only accept the top few under the excuse that they made the most out of what they had, even though the bottom few may be more qualified than the top few of another area.

Uh I hope that made sense.

Wow that sucks bc like 75% of my asian population (only 3) is applying to Rice, additionaly both of the 2 valedictorians are even tho they're going to get in everywhere... kinda annoying...

a little broader, what about competition from neighboring schools that are in the same area and socioeconomic bracket?

You guys think I am alright, I go to a fairly big public HS in Jupiter, FL...fairly unknown place, and I know one other person applied Early Action to BC with me with slightly better stats, you think I'm out of the running? Also, like 2 others applied RD to BC, but as it won't be the same time, I am assuming they won't be a factor...

Dangit. Half the honors kids at my school is applying to Pomona (of the Claremont McKenna system) and a third is applying to Columbia. And then all the smart kids (~10-15) kids are applying to Yale. Splendiforous. Unfortunately, those 3 schools are also among my list of 13 schools.

'Least I have 10 other schools.

Don't worry about it you guys, just apply.
