Do the Grades Matter?

I was wondering that when you apply to any summer program at one of the well known boarding schools, like Choate, Exeter, Andover etc...
Do the grades matter? Or is it just on first comes first serve bases?
I have B's and C's but I really want to go to one of the summer programs, will my grades matter?

Thank you.

P.S I will be applying for these programs next year (2008)

Also when I apply I will be in 8th grade. going to 9th grade

D. attended the Choate summer program at the end of 8th grade and grades and recommendations DO matter.

Your best sources of information are the school and application form itself. Why not read the applications and e-mail your questions to the schools?

It was a couple years ago that D attended the summer program and she did very well (you'll receive grades and a short narrative evaluation for each course). To do that, you have to work very hard. Why do you want to attend one of these programs? Many students think it will give them an edge in prep school admissions but that's only true if you do well. Attending and not putting in the effort will not impress admissions reps.

Most of these programs have rolling admissions, and say that by getting your application in early you have the best chance of admission. So why not apply early and hope for the best. You can look at the current course catalogs to get an idea of what courses were available this year and what you would need for recommendations and be ready when next year's stuff comes out.

Most summer programs will be glad to have you if you have the money to pay.

I can't speak for prep school programs though, but I'd assume it's somewhat similar.

I went to Andover Summer Session this year and I'm going into ninth grade. I highly recommend it.

Grades matter, but you don't have to have straight A's or B's. There were a few kids there that were definitely not Andover material, but you probably just don't have to be a drug addict or flunking out of school to get in for Summer Session.

The work load is probably going to be difficult, depending on the classes you take. Most people had about three to six hours of homework a night, sometimes less sometimes more. It's really fun though; definitely worth it.

I got into the summer session at Andover for the summer transition before sophomore year but decided not to go because of financial problems. Basically, for that first semester of high school, I had only one B, and that was in an honors class. So yes, grades do matter as well.
