If several people ED'ed for a certain college would it lower each other's chances simply because they go to the same high school?? thanks

Do a quick search. This very question comes up about a dozen times A MONTH.

Your chances are definitely lower if many students from your high school are applying to the same college.

I used to think so, but this year UPenn took 9 kids (out of 125) from our school. MIT didn’t take anyone and Columbia only took one. I wonder.

You can make yourself crazy overanalyzing this issue–once you’ve committed to attending a certain HS, don’t bother dwelling on this–just do the best you can and let your uniqueness shine through.

That may be your perspective but it counters what the schools say themselves and my experience of 20 yrs interviewing and recruiting for my HYP alma mater. Two years ago, my local high school had four accepts – a mathematical improbability to the nth degree. Our entire state had about 28 accepts that year. These last two years — one and zero accepts from the same HS. Still tons of apps. But the *individuals *two years ago really were stellar in the college’s eyes.
