Do the Sister Schools taking multiple applicants from each high school?

Hello everyone!

Just out of curiosity, has anyone heard stories or experienced Barnard, Smith, Wellesley and Mt. Holyoke taking multiple applicants in from a highschool?

Including myself, there are around four girls from my school applying to Wellesley - does the admissions restrict itself to taking only one girl? Is it rare for them to take in multiple applicants?

Many thanks!

Judging by the Naviance data for my school, it mostly depends on how good the applicants are for the school.

This year, 5 students applied to Smith ED, and I was the only one who got in. Last year 4 students applied, 3 were accepted. Then in 2007, 2006, and 2005, 4 applied and 2 were accepted.

For Wellesley, every year except for 2007 and 2010, 2 have applied and 1 has gotten in. In 2007 and 2010 2 applied and 2 were accepted.

For Mount Holyoke, in 2010, 2007, and 2005, 3 students applied and 3 students were accepted. Students didn’t apply any other years.

For some reason no one from my school is ever interested in Barnard, I’ve never heard it mentioned around my school and apparently no one in 6 years has applied.

I don’t think that the Sisters have any qualms with accepting multiple students from one school, if the students are qualified. I don’t think that they have any restrictions about only accepting 1 student.

No college or university refuses to take an application.

As to acceptances, colleges and universities all say that they will accept the candidates who best fit what they are looking for, irrespective of what high school the applicant comes from. True, that no college/university would want to accept an entire high school senior class, but how likely is that, anyway? Even if 5 applicants apply to to the same college, it is unlikely that all will get accepted (each person is somewhat different), and even if so, that all applicants will ultimately attend.

Stop worrying. Apply where you want to and stop worrying about your fellow high school seniors.

Two of my best friends with better academics than mine have applied to the 5 Sister schools. I have applied to Barnard, Smith, MHC and Bryn Mawr. Wellesley was originally on my list but it was a big reach and I didn’t have the essay (supplemental) done by the deadline and just took it off my list. I’m sure there are other girls at my school who have applied to these schools if in our group 3 of us have.

The thing is that both of them prefer either a full ride at a lesser school or getting into an Ivy (both of them have great shots at both). So if these schools did accept just them, chances are they’re not going. So I have no idea how that works. If 17 girls from my high school wanted to apply and all had great numbers etc, would that mean they’d only admit the top 3? I don’t know how it works. Just thinking out loud.
