If I invite my teachers online, and they fill it out and submit it, do the recs get sent to my Common App account for me to send to certain colleges (obviously without me being able to see the actual content of the recs)? That would be ideal, especially because I won't apply to all of the schools on my list until I find out my Yale SCEA decision. Or is it basically that the recs get sent to those schools that I have submitted the app to? On that note, when I submit the Common App itself, does it automatically get sent to all of the schools on my list, or can i select which ones to send it to at first?

Inviting your teachers online will let them complete their evaluations/letters/etc. for your CommonApp account. Once you have invited them, go to “School Forms” > select the college > and then scroll down to select which teacher recommendation(s) you wish to send to the school. (It will denote their progress as well.)

Hope this helped because I’m also applying this year w/ little knowledge on the mechanics of applying; Good luck!

Thanks. There are so many random questions that pop into my head. The Common App is not convenient at all. There are still so many random pieces that need to be sent.

Yes. Your teacher recs will be sent to every college to which you apply, but only AFTER you submit your app to that college.

In the common app, you choose which teacher recs go to which schools. You can mix and match teachers and schools on a school by school basis. You can do this at any time, including before you submit the rest of your application. I already invited teachers to do their recommendations for my schools but I haven’t submitted the common app to any schools yet. For some schools I invited two teachers and for others I invited only one. Depends on the school.
