Do the UC's communicate w/ each other?

This is mostly about UCLA and Berkeley, ive heard in the past that it is close to impossible to get into both, you either get into one or the other. Does anyone know if this is true? does each school let each other know whose been accepted to each campus and therefore you can only get into one?
