I was attending a CCC in Lake Tahoe and was going through a mental issue and having to work two jobs to stay in my apartment, and dropped all of my classes and got W's. I'm retaking all of those classes in my new CCC ( Riverside Community College) that I recieved W's for in the old one. As long as I keep a 3.6 GPA in my UC/CSU transferrable courses and retake those classes, would my ability to transfer to CSU Fullerton/UCI be impacted in a bad way?

I'm double majoring in Journalism and Psychology ( Has been changed, from what I previously was majoring in, as I like to analyze people and their actions/why they act the way they do, as well as write about it.....so this is a perfect fit....)

My current UC/CSU transferrable GPA is 3.2 ( an F for and two C's are what's driving it down into the toilet......) but the rest of the classes that I have yet to take are considered difficult for some, but easy for me.....so I expect to pull it up before I apply.....

I currently have 15 Semester Units completed...

u should be fine, maybe explain ur situation in personal essays, the schools that u're aiming at are not very competitive. The most important thing right now is u must make changes to prevent this from happening again. Forget everything and start over should be ur mindset.

My former CC was on the quarter system...I had earned 23.50 UC Transferrable Units at that College before I went to RCC, which uses the semester system. So, I converted my units to semester units....which is a little over 15..( 15.52 to be exact)
The F was in a 2 unit class ( forgot to drop it in time...) and the C ( found out that the other was in a class that doesn't transfer so I threw that one out...) was in a 5 unit English class. Then I recieved B's in a .25 unit dance class, and a 5 unit English class and A's in two Spanish classes ( 5 units each) and a 1.25 unit music class and 2 unit Theater class.

My brother calculated my GPA and I believed what he said. he seems to be off by a long shot. So, maybe someone could calculate my GPA exactly.... The values are in semester units.
None of the GPA calculators that I found online can factor in the .16 unit class

23.50 Quarter Units=15.52 semester units

These are converted to Semester Units and rounded off....

English 101- 3.3 B
English 103-3.3 C
Spanish 101-3.3 A
Spanish 102-3.3 A
Dance 111- 0.16 B
Theater 128B- 1.33 A
Music 202- 0.83 A

So I am guessing by looking that my GPA is actually somewhere in the 2.7 range.....I really need to get it higher!

I calculated it myself and included the class with the "F" ( 1.33 semester units)....the GPA ended up being 3.08......
I'll try to pull it up if at all possible...

Assume it's somewhere there in the middle, do what you can in the meantime, and try not to worry. As the song says, what will be, will be!

On the W note, I don't think that they should look poorly on a group of W's /provided/ that you explain in detail what happened, and how you retook everything. Then again, I'm not on the committee, and the difference between 'should' and 'do' is often insurmountably large. As always, your best bet is to contact the authorities.

If you've retaken those classes you received W's in and you have explained why you withdrew from all your classes, and providing that it was a one time thing, I'm sure the W's will be no problem. Your only other issue is the F, which if you retake and pass with at least a C, should also be no problem.

The important thing is, you really need to get your "Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum" done to be able to have a good shot at transferring to a UC. If you're not going to have at least 60 units completed and have your IGETC completed before enrollment at UCI, then your odds of getting in are a lot slimmer, because UC's put a priority on Junior level transfers. With IGETC and 60 units under your belt, you can have as little as a 3.08 to 3.36 GPA and have a high chance of getting into UCI. I did. :)

Thank you for all of the advice. I will use it.

BlueVartouhi:

I'm already on the IGETC path. I should have completed 60 semester units by the end of next spring. My first choice is CSU Fullerton because of the possibility of a big scholarship....

The class that I recieved the "F" in is not offered at RCC....so what would I do in this case? I am going to check other community Colleges in the area and see if it is offered at any of them, but Music 210 ( The class is called Live Opera) doesn't have a CAN number.......so I may be stuck....
any suggestions?

( I got the F because I thought that the class was dropped, as I filed a drop form, but apparently it was lost somehow.....and so I got the F. I have more than enough knowledge to get an A or B in the class.)

I talked with my former CCC and they said that the "F" for that music class is staying where it is......unless I retake the class at the same CCC . I may do that and go there to take that class next fall, as all it requires is three in-class meetings and a trip to see an opera in a local city. What other choice would I have if I didn't do that? If I have an "F" in a UC/CSU transferrable class, I may not get accepted to my two reaches: UCLA and UCSD. ( because they are in the midst of a good Jewish community/have a Hillel chapter, and I am Jewish and need that kind of support and sense of community......) The other colleges that have been added are CSUSB, UCR ( safeties because I think that my CCC has a TAG with UCR and my stats are okay for that particular CSU, plus they're good colleges...not everyone can be Ivy League!),UCLA and UCSD ( for the reasons stated above.)

I'm sorry that I'm worrying so much, it's just that I'm nervous because my apps go out in November and there isn't a lot of time left!

Things will turn out fine in the end,I'm just worrying in the meantime.

UCLA and UCSD have huge jewish communities? Does anyone know which UC's have huge Muslim communities or Indian/Pakistani communities? Just like to know.
