Do these B's really affect my chances?

I am a rising junior. I've always been a college-hopeful, but at the same time I've always had the horrible habit of slacking in the simplest of classes.. From here on forth I vow to myself never to let this habit hinder me again. LOL

Here goes..
In Freshman year I earned a B+ (89.9%) in Beginning Art, and another 89.9% in Health.
For sophomore year I earned an 89.8% in Dance (I'm starting to think my elective teachers are all out to get me in the same way.) I have never been diligent in these classes, although I get straight A's in all the rest. These are the only B's I've earned but I still dream of attending Cornell or some other Ivy someday.

What do you think? I have LOTS of extracurriculars to list, and if I try really hard, I will get decent SAT scores (I've taken the PSAT and scored 192). Have I screwed myself over with these B's though? Please be truthful with me.. Thanks!

I do not think 3 B’s will really hinder you, considering you got two of them in Freshmen year. On the other hand, your PSAT score is quite low and will hinder you from the Ivies. You need to raise your score to at least a 2250 SAT (225 PSAT) for a chance at the Ivies. I haven’t seen your extra-currics, so I don’t know about them.

PS. It’s a B in dance, not any major subject, so I do not think its a big deal.

chance back?

Oh, this will help a lot… Sorry, I was too lazy to post them.

Extracurriculars:
After-school math tutor, devoting several days a week as a sophomore
Played badminton for 2 years
Interests include sewing, scheming, skiing, skating, star-gazing, badminton, and piano.
I played piano for seniors at my grandma’s retirement care home and I have played for 10 years.
~200 community service hours total so far
Started a short-term group recycling project, raised ~$80 to buy a tree to plant at my school

Active volunteer/intern @ a science museum and member of the Astronomy Team there
Note: I have only recently developed an interest in astronomy.

Was going to be promoted to Vice president of the Drama Club and Mathletes Club at old school for junior year until I decided to move. (Drama leader even encouraged me to take over presidency senior year)
So no leadership position for Junior year so far, but only because I’m moving. Does it count if they planned to promote me?? Heeheee

Thanks!!

If you don’t get in, it won’t be because you got a B in dance/art. Don’t dwell on it! Oh and wow I wish there was a dance class at my school lol.

Colleges re-calculate gpa and completely exclude elective classes so only core classes are consiered. So they don’t matter in terms of gpa. What they will affect, however, is your class rank which is an important factor for such colleges.

Thank you all for clarifying! I feel much better! ^__^
