Senior in high school with a 33 ACT and 10/12 on ACT writing. Taking the SAT subject tests saturday (Literature and History). Based on practice tests, I will probably get around a 700 on lit, and 600 on history. I’m not overly happy with this, and was wondering if
- these scores are OK and
- if the following colleges care about SAT subject test scores
Bowdoin College
Carleton College
Claremont McKenna College
Colorado College
Columbia University
Cornell University
Dartmouth College
New York University
Pomona College
University of Pennsylvania
Whitman College
Sorry if this is posted in the wrong forum.
Also,
3)Should I bother applying to schools where subject tests are ‘recommended’?
4)Does subject tests being ‘considered’ mean the same thing as ‘recommended’?
Thank you!
I don’t think I can link it but take a look at PrepScholar’s “Complete List: Colleges that require SAT Subject Tests.”
It tells you which colleges consider, recommend, and require the tests.
For example, Bowdoin “considers” the tests, so you can submit them, but it won’t necessarily be a major factor. You will be fine without them. Same w/ Carleton + Claremont McKenna.
700 on lit is okay, 600 on history is not worth taking. On the day of you can decide not to take a test I believe? But I guess if you can use score choice, it will be okay…as the Collegeboard will not refund you for your untaken test. A 600 is not great for the schools on your list, which is very selective for the most part.
As stated by other credible posters in other threads, when schools “recommend” tests, if you have the financial means/resources to do so, you basically must take the tests.
Considered does not equal recommended. Recommended basically means required. Considered means they will look at the exams, but you will not really be penalized if you do not submit them. They will not throw away your scores, at least.
Google compass guide to college admission testing. There are tables in that document where you can look up all the popular colleges.
Required - don’t bother applying if you don’t have it
Recommended - we like to see, especially if you are not a disadvantaged applicant, but we will consider you without it.
Considered - If you want to send them, we will look at them (a weaker ask than either of the above). Some schools with a “considered” policy will actually say they will only consider them if they help you.
Can AP tests scores replace SAT subject tests? I scored 4’s and 5’s on AP US History, Comp and Lang, Calculus AB, Seminar, and Physics
