Does USC admit students based on what major they choose? I heard that this was the case with many schools. If so, does this mean the majors that are less popular have easier admittance.

they admit by schools, not majors. the cinematic and communications schools being probably the most competitive whereas the college of letters, arts, and sciences tends to be the easiest of all to get into

In a manner of speaking... see, you have to be admitted to the university and to your major. So there are a lot of people every year who put down really competitive majors like film, and end up accepted to USC but not to their first choice major. So I think if you're a strong applicant in general, I wouldn't worry about whether the major you select hurts or helps- put down what you really want to do, and if you don't get accepted to it, then you've still got the chance to come in undeclared. Though if you don't get accepted to your major of choice, oftentimes it's a better decision to go somewhere else where you can major in what you want.
