do they call back??

do colleges call back to your school to speak about you to your principal??Does the admissions office send any documents to the school of the applicant??

why do you ask? they may if you have anything thats triggering off an alarm signal. For example, if you say you did something at this time, and there is something weird or a discrepancy then they will call

But hope not... and why wpould they send anything to the school?

What might be that "something" that triggers an alarm signal?please tell me in detail.
I hope they dont send back any documents to the school or call the school for verification of some sort?

Sometimes colleges do call teachers, GCs, etc. It depends on the college and what's in your application. Sometimes colleges call to verify info; sometimes to learn more info.

I remember that my S's former GC told me that Harvard called her and talked to her for 40 minutes asking lots of questions about an EA applicants' character before Harvard admitted him EA. One of the questions Harvard wanted to know was whether the student was humble or was egotistical.

I know it's hard for some people to realize, but top colleges aren't trying to admit egomaniacs or people who are not interested in helping other people, but just want to do whatever is possible for themselves to get ahead.

When colleges call schools to find out more information, it can be because there are discrepancies between what student says on their app and what their teachers and GC says. For instance, if a student writes that they have a lot of leadership positions, yet their teachers and GC say things like, "Although he is shy, I believe that he could blossom in the right college atmosphere", the colleges would have cause to call the school to verify whether the offices that the student listed were accurate.

They do, particularly for applicants from Asian countries..

i hope they dont send any reccomendations back to the school for verification or somethin like that

NSM, I second that completely. Your advice is awesome

Amansehgal, why do you worry? Once you get in or are done applying, ur school days are almost over. Secondly, if you have a clear concience or nothing to hide... then ull be fine

Something that triggers an alarm signal would be as Northstarmom said...
If you talk about your essay about social work.. and say "I did this", "I thought they needed it", "If they listen to me, it gets done" the they may call ur GC and see whether you are a swollen headed ass or a nice person...

Further, assuming you (I dont mean YOU, just in general) cheated or summat. Then they may want to know more it and you. they may want the circumstance and extent. Further, they may map your character to it.

Another exaple would be your essays, interview and facts. If you talk about lots of change and blah blah and didnt do **** for social work and seem indifferent in the interview, they may call

As I said, unless there is something out of the ordicary or summat wrong, then ur fine...

if ur clean, then chill out . :)

"i hope they dont send any reccomendations back to the school for verification or somethin like that"

Why not? As I said... if its a real reco, ur cool... If they sent it back for me.. my teachers wouldve laughed at them and been insulted for questioning their integrity and mine

to abhishiv,
Are you indian..??
And why do say that ?? "particularly asians"?

yeah why do u say that? I am indian too...

Let's get off the racial comments and stick to the subject at hand..Amansehgal, why are you worried? If your recs are on the up and up and you didnt' lie on your app then there is nothing to be worried about. If you did then you deserve to worry and I hope they do check up on it.

It wasnt racial.. imaybe he had a real reason or statistic...

"If they sent it back for me.. my teachers wouldve laughed at them and been insulted for questioning their integrity and mine"

That sounds very egotistical. Why shouldn't a college question anyone's integrity? It's not as if the college admissions officers personally know in depth their applicants or the people who write recommendations.

i perfectly agree with NSM

hey antarius..one request buddy
please PM me ur contact number or email cause there is something really important i want to discuss with you.

The most cases of cheating on app are from Asian Countries(India Specifically).
Even if there's a little discrepancy on your app they would call/mail your GC.
An Indian kid got kicked out of UPENN coz he hided the fact that he attended a university before coming to PENN.
And before more people term me racist; i am an Indian too...

where are you now?
and there`s no question of racism dude..

adcoms have phones, and they know how to use them ;) It's not unusual for a college to call a HS to talk to someone to verify an item to to get further details, and Northstarmom gives a perfect example.

"If they sent it back for me.. my teachers wouldve laughed at them and been insulted for questioning their integrity and mine"

maybbe it does...i know oe teacher would have laughed tho... further, i am of the type who was taught to trust.. sorta like teh Honor code at Rice, both sides trust each other..

"further, i am of the type who was taught to trust.. sorta like teh Honor code at Rice, both sides trust each other.."

Blind trust, however is not a wise thing to do.

I'd bet that the colleges with the honor codes are the ones that are particularly diligent about following up when applications seem fishy. After all, they don't want students on their campus who have ethics problems. With such students, an honor code would simply be a joke.
