Do they ever make an exception to the curriculum requirements?

I recently learned of CMC and I think that it would be a perfect fit for me. I was really excited to apply, but I found out that they require 3 years of foreign language. Although I've taken three years if you count 7th grade, I only have 2 years in high school. My school only offered two languages, and all language opportunities are limited where I live. I didn't want to keep going with language because the teacher made it so that you could lose credit for wrong answers, but you couldn't gain credit for right answers. It was a terrible class, and I wanted to learn languages that were not offered. My current school has a few more options, but I don't think there's a way for me to get a whole years worth in next semester. I'd have to learn two different languages at once, and there's only one I could even get into (even that class is full). Is there any way around the requirement? An alumni wrote me a wonderful recommendation letter, and I'd hate for his time to be wasted.

I love Economics and International Relations. I study those subjects frequently, and CMC is a good place for them. I want to at least try to get in. I took the most rigorous curriculum that my school offered, but other concerns prevented me from getting the best grades. I ended up with a 3.25 GPA (nearly 4.0 weighted). My SAT is 2090, 580 math, 720 Reading, and 790 Writing. I sent them my SAT, and I made the mistake of sending them my ACT (25). I recieved a leadership award in ROTC, and I won debate trophies. I was in philosophy club and a horticulture class.

I haven't written the essay yet because I'm not sure if I can apply. The deadline is fast approaching, and I need to know. I called their office, but they are closed until after the deadline. Please give me some information.

Worst thing that’ll happen is that they wont accept your application, the best thing that can happen is that you get accepted. I say you take the time to write the essay and send in the application. Plus the essay isn’t the easiest in the world, actually it was my hardest supplement. So, personally I would send in the application and call them when they are back in the office.

Either 3 years in high school OR you can just take a placement exam (and place out of it) to get past the language requirement. I’d just suggest that you study for a little - not sure how hard the placement exams for other languages are, but I took Chinese and it wasn’t all too bad. Hope this helps!

Wow, you must be a pretty good Chinese speaker. I ended up getting to apply even without the third year. I submitted the application on time, and they decided to waive the requirement.

I’m glad that I listened to DieterSama

looking at the glass half full, works almost every time.
