from the NU admitted student survey that was sent today.

"78. In the course of your senior year, did you ever log into a student message board like College Confidential or something similar to seek out opinions and advice about individual colleges? "

felt the survey was a little too intrusive but i also understand NU's need to know how they fare in this hectic world of college admissions.

Not scary.
This is a public forum, and thus any posting is a public display of character that admissions should be allowed to take into account.

They will be able to tell who I am! My screen name contains my initials and year of birth. Maybe I should change it to something less conspicuous.

they can def easily identify all the kids that post their stats in their "chances" threads and find out how many schools they applied to and where and stuff....but i doubt it's a big deal and they are just concerned on where to focus their attention with.

i dont think that they have the time to search and find out which applicant matches up with which screen name and search through their posts in order to find which schools they applied to. you people need to stop worrying about it because im sure that Northwestern asked that question to see how much CC effects a person's decision and if they find that it effects it a lot, then we might get a few NU adcoms on here trying to answer questions and stuff, much like the MIT and UVA forums

I cannot imagine that admissions staff at NU has time to sift through public forums and try to match students to posters. Just a little too ridiculous for me.

there are a lot of admissions officers and alumni interviewers on this board. you have to watch what you say. i haven't heard of anyone being rejected for something they posted on the forum, but I heard about an interviewer that found out that someone who they had interviewed was trash talking the school he/she represented.

think about it though, NU had a 19% increase in applications this year. im sure the office was going crazy just trying to read them all and make decisions about applicants. i heard that your app gets about 15 minutes in the hands of an officer while they read and make the decision whether to admit you or not. you really think they have time to search here and try to match comments to applicants?? technically, im certain they could, but timewise i dont see how its feasable
