I'm still freaking out about all this admissions stuff ToT
And I'm curious in how UCI "picks" its applicants to be admitted?
Is it by major? 'Say you applied for an um "unpopular/non-impacted" major, would you get in because you're one of the only few who applied there?
Or is it soley based on gpa/sat/all the liking??
Anyone know ;__;
Thanks in advance (:

I’m pretty sure, but not 100% that it depends on your stats. From what I can tell from personal experiences, major does not matter for ADMISSION. If you apply to an impacted major, they will send put you in your secondary major or undeclared if you are unqualified for the impacted major.

If what YOU say is true, then everyone would do that. And then change their majors again before orientation. So… yeah I think its based solely on your stats (GPA, SAT’s, essay, extracurriculars, etc.)

For freshman admission, all majors are equally competitive with the exception of Nursing and Engineering. Transfer admission is selective by major/division and your choice of major will have an impact on your chance of acceptance.

I’m sorry if this seems like a dumb question, but what do you mean by “equally competitive”?

what about business, is that competitive as well?

funnypunjabi,

The new Business Administration undergrad program is competitive. The alternative major, Business Economics is not a competitive major.

im not sure how competitive the bus admin major actually is. the statistics they put out (something like "15% or whatever kids accepted) sounds fishy because several of my friends who applied to uci got notices (before the admission decision) saying something like “based on your profile, we are considering you for admission to the business admin major”.

none of these friends got into uci, let alone the business admin major.

none of these friends were interested in business in general. a few of them were actually heavy in the arts.

sounds like a nasty admission trick to raise their statistics early on.

anyway, my understanding is the admission is based on your skills period (aside from the impacted majors: engrs, bus admin, and the arts, where you audition or something). they application pool is big enough where they dont have to worry about getting a class of all science majors or something one year i guess.

^thanks! :D
