Do transfer students need elective courses?

Im going to be transfering to ucsb in the fall however if i want to finish in 2 years im going to need to take 15 units a semester, this is just with my pre reqs and upper div classes.
My question is do I need to take elective classes as well? I have already completed my IGETC and i really dont have time or room for unnecessary classes. I want to focus on my primary classes and finish in 2 years

If “elective” courses refers to classes not related to your field of study, you may or may not have to take a few classes.

Once your credits have transferred over, you should be able to access your UCSB “unofficial” transcripts online to determine which graduation requirements (University, College, and Major) have been fulfilled.

It depends on how many prerequisites you completed and how many upper division units are needed for your major. For example, I’m going to transfer with 91.5 quarter units. I still need 88.5 in order to have 180 required to graduate. I still need to take 3 prerequisites (12 units) and my major requires 40 Upper division courses. UCSB requires 60 upper division courses in order to graduate, so after I finish my major requirements, I will need to take another 20 to full fill the university requirements. That’s a total of 72 units. That means I will have about 17 free units I can use for whatever!

After transfer, you need to complete the courses required for your major, any remaining campus breadth requirements not satisfied by IGETC (if any), and enough units of courses to complete 180 quarter units total (at most 105 quarter units of these can be from community college transfer credit).

I have been at my cc for 3 years and have about 80 units however i do not know how that will transfer over since the max is 60? Or will I still be marked down for 80. My pre reqs that i need to finish come out to about 34 units and my upper div is 46 make a total of 160 so ugh i guess i will need electives. Unless semester units to quarter units creates a different amount?

Are the units you have semester or quarter units?

A total of 120 semester or 180 quarter units are needed for bachelor’s degree graduation. The maximum number of units transferable from community college is 70 semester or 105 quarter units (so you would have to take at least 50 semester or 75 quarter units after transfer if you have that many units), although any courses you took at community college will count for specific subject requirements that they apply to, regardless of any unit overage.

Ah i see yes my units at my cc are semester so if only 70 transfer over then i will have 105 quarter units, so the rest of my units wont transfer over but they will count as a completed class still?

Yes, if you have 80 semester units from CC, you will start UCSB with 105 quarter units, and will have to complete at least 75 quarter units at UCSB to graduate (in addition to specific course requirements for your major).

All courses taken at CC do count to any specific course requirements that they apply to (based on [Welcome to ASSIST](http://www.assist.org) and your major’s requirements), regardless of the unit count being capped at 105 quarter units on transfer.
