I heard somewhere that transfer students do not recieve financial aid. Can someone verify this for me please. I am mostly interested in ivy league schools. Thanks

FA policies for transfers vary:

Some schools treat transfer just like fr (eg. HYDartmouth).

Others say that they have limited FA for transfers (eg. Brown, which also has need-aware admissions for transfer applicants).

And there are some schools who may not give any FA to transfers (I don’t know of any that are in this category, but my knowledge of FA specifics for transfers is limited; I don’t think any of the Ivies are in this category).

I don’t know the specifics of Penn, Cornell or Columbia FA policies for transfers.

The easiest and most reliable way to find out is to go to the primary source, the college websites.

Note: what you might have “heard” was the misuse of the term FA, which refers to need based monies. It is true that most schools that give merit based scholarships give them overwhelmingly to fr applicants and that merit scholarships for transfers are fewer in number and for lesser amounts. Of course, none of the Ivies give merit aid to anyone.

thanks a lot for your help

The hard thing for transfers is merit aid. Many, if not most, colleges that meet need do so for transfers. There are some, like Brown, that meet need for freshmen applicants only.

Of course most schools don’t meet need and those that do tend to be top colleges that are hard to get into.
