I got a very generous financial package from a private school but am considering a different public one. However if things don't work out, what are the chances of me getting a similar financial aid package at the private school as a transfer?

To specify Union college has offered me 30K a year from their waiting list and they offer 100% need based.

I can't seem to find statistics online or any info. about financial aid of transfers but i'd really like to know if I would be able to afford this school as a transfer if my top choice did not work out or turned out to be a bad fit.

your federal aid Pell, Perkins, stafford, etc are good anywhere.

As far as institutional aid, it can vary by school. Call and ask them if they award aid to transfer students. The public school certainly costs less than the private so 30K in aid is most likely more than the COA

As Sue says, call the school; they all have different rules.

Spawn and I went to a college fair today for the Colleges That Change Lives (CTCL), and the major reason we went was to ask about their financial aid for transfers. Some consider transfer students the same as freshmen admits for finaid, and some offer no finaid at all for transfers. Others have specific criteria for transfers that will get the transfers merit money (“if you have this college GPA and these standardized test scores, you get x bucks”).
