Student Government (keep in mind that you need a 3.0 in my school to be considered for student government, so how she was eligible is beyond me) the teacher in charge of this basically handpicks students... students hand him applications and he either agrees or disagrees to it for whatever reason.. not voted on by students

This may seem offensive, but how wealthy was she?

I'm not sure; I'm pretty sure she's up there... she would've paid full out-of-pocket tuition, had she chosen the school.

my friend was accepted into berkeley, ucla, ucsd, and some others with only a 1290 old SAT, and a pretty high GPA; he was rank 1 of his class

I have friends with 900-1050 SAT pretty high GPA get into UCB and UCLA. Sounds incredulous,uh?

I don't think that counts...he was 10 points shy of a 1300

1300 - average SAT score for UCB
1289 - average SAT score for UCLA
1239 - average SAT score for UCSD

From what you've said, his SAT score is the only thing that could have brought him down...but it obviously didn't hurt him that much, so good for him! A 1290 is definitely not a low score...it's above average; how can it be low? I understand how we all understand "low" to be different things, but a 1290 is NOT low. A 1290 is far above average.

ditto cy_sunset:
six people are at UC Berkeley right now, and their SATs were probably 900-1100ish, with gpas around 3.5 uw... though UCs recalculate GPAs, so I'm not entirely sure.
valedictorian (out of around 60) last year got into Harvard among other toptier schools despite her 1200 SAT score.

maybe being Irish and wealthy was the determining factors for getting accepted into JHU
