Do U.S. Universities consider Italian students differently? If so, how?

Since high school in Italy consists of five years of study instead of four, how do U.S. admissions teams consider their application? They’ve had one more year to develop academically, socially, emotionally, etc., than students from other countries.

I’m applying to a foreign exchange program to Italy as a U.S. citizen, so I’d really like to know.

Will you be doing a 5th year in Italy?

I’ll be going into fourth year, and if things work out, staying for the 5th year.

Us adcoms know it’s a very rigorous program (most students learn English and Latin in addition to Italian literature, philosophy, history, calculus…)
