do u think this will work to see if we are accepted?

Meh. Not nearly as harmful as it's made out to be. I'm still here, aren't I?

But logging-in intentionally AFTER the NYU official said NOT to do it?

We should not try anyways.

But, if NYU really didnt want students to do this, then they should at least prompt a warning pop up or something...Or they should just change the method of accessing into that information--such as an alternate pin that you get after you are admitted.

I got in ED but um I'm not even going near that site until I get the go-ahead from NYU.

Of course that doesn't mean I'm not tempted.....I'm very tempted.

Am I telling you to login? Stop jumping to conclusions, buddy.

You're the one jumping to conclusions....did I SAY you told me to login?

"Don't click it. Yes I'm tempted. The thing about the harvard business school admissions is the EXACT same as this. A guy found a loophole (a string the could be changed in the URL) that allowed him to view his decision a few hours early. Posted in forum. A handful of other people tried and all got their decisions revoked too."

That's unbelievable. And probably not real. Why would Harvard revoke smart kids...

-The Unbelievable Coot66

Totally agree, cj1989 !

What makes you say I'm "jumping to conclusions"?

You can't get in trouble considering there is no warning whatsoever on the site saying to not click on it if you are prospective student

coot - yes what I said is what happened.

Actual story: <a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A18798-2005Mar8.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A18798-2005Mar8.html</a></p>

Details of what the school considered "hacking":
<a href="http://www.freedom-to-tinker.com/index.php?p=780%5B/url%5D">http://www.freedom-to-tinker.com/index.php?p=780</a></p>

"but a student who was logged in to the site could access his/her letter by constructing a special URL. "

The only difference was their wasn't a link to this on harvard's website, but they didn't really "hack" they simply changed a URL string.

Revoking acceptances would be an asinine thing to do. With the help of Google you can find the site in a flash (search: "ITS NYU" and go through the NYU site). You could merely be looking at information about their internet connections and stumble upon it.

what's the problem with you people? You can't wait a few days for your admissions to come? stop worrying, because taking your mind off of all these things will make time pass faster, and do something productive instead.

"do something productive instead" says ihavenolife

lol no offense or anything. I just thought that was really funny

lololololol I discovered this 2 years ago

aaron12345: Ouch. Proved me wrong. That's still really stupid. Nothing wrong with overanxious students...

"But logging-in intentionally AFTER the NYU official said NOT to do it?"

There you go, buddy.

What do you mean, "there you go". I didn't say I was logging in.

You implied that I advocated the idea of logging in.
