Do UCLA dorms have shared microwave/electric water heater?

Will be attending UCLA this fall and is wondering if dorms provide shared microwave/electric water heater. Kinda worried about my instant noodles lol… (BTW I live in Hitch so if you know something specific about Hitch, please tell me!)

Some details: What I am thinking is, UCLA says we must rent from www.collegiateconcepts.net to have a microwave in our room. This offer (a two-door fridge and a microwave) costs like around $250 a year, but a two-door fridge only costs like $120 on Amazon (and, they are BOUGHT, so could be used for multiple years). I am thinking buying from Amazon is a much better deal if dorms provide shared microwave anyway… Is it right?

This is what they say:
UCLA regulations require students to use the MicroFridge combination appliance, Refrigerator/true zero degree freezer & Microwave oven, as the only option to have a Microwave oven in your residence hall room. Thanks! GO BRUINS!

Buy a $20 electric tea kettle to heat water.

Used my own fridge in the dorms. Didn’t have any other appliances. Doubt you’ll need instant noodles like you mentioned with the meal plan. The meal plan food is amazing and there’s plenty of it

@10s4life do you think they will actually NEED a microfridge? just debating even getting my son one.

My son thought he didn’t need a microfridge, but since we already had one we brought it anyway. He used it mainly for cold drinks and now definitely wants to have it again this year.

@Haysmom There’s water filters on each floor. I never used mine for food. Roommates and I Used it for drinks tho

The Microfrig ownership calculation also needs to include the cost of storing if you’re a student that leaves dorm stuff over summer and flys home (we pay $20 for frig storage, plus other per item amounts for storage bins, rug, fan, etc. usually runs around $80 for the summer.)

I encourage all students to have a STORAGE PLAN in advance if you don’t plan on dragging all dorm stuff home every year. Easiest way is to bring all your stuff to school already packed in designated bins and keep record of what goes/fits in each bin, etc. Then when its FINALS week in May and you’re required to dropoff your bins to Storage company mid-week, students just have to re-pack according to list (instead of scrambling around for storage containers AND packing up for the first time. Did I mention this happens at DD’s college in the middle of finals week!)

Boxcamp is a good company to use. They will give you your stuff when you move back and collection/reception is all done on campus.
