Do UC's care how many units I take per semester?

I'm a CS major applying this fall. I have 2 classes left to take to complete IGETC (art and bio w/ lab), and quite a few pre-reqs. I will finish them all before I transfer however.

My current schedule is this:

Summer: Speech (for CSU's), Linear Algebra
Fall: Assembly Language Programming, Calculus III, Discrete Mathematics
Spring: General Chemistry 2, Data Structures, Art, Bio

I'm concerned about my Fall semester because its a total of 12 units. While that makes me a full-time student, I don't want schools to think I'm a slacker. But those 3 classes are some of the most difficult at my school, so I'd rather focus on those and do well, than take a bunch of classes and do crappy.

No it doesn’t really matter. What’s important is that your pre-requisites are completed, not how you arrange your schedule to complete them. I will say this though, it’s always advantageous to complete as many pre-reqs, breadth/IGETC requirements, TAG requirements, etc as early as possible. If you can finish everything the Fall before you transfer or at least the critical requirements/pre-reqs then admission officers tend to be more confident in accepting you and don’t have to speculate as to what your grades will be in spring before you transfer.

Ideally I would prioritize the requirements in this way in terms of urgency:
Math/English requirement > major pre-reqs > IGETC/Breadth

Yeah, I don’t think they will think you’re a slacker; they’ll see that you’re getting your major pre-reqs done by the fall (so they will be able to take those grades into account). I think what’s more important is that you finish the classes as soon as possible with good grades.

Only taking 12 units a semester isn’t going to deem you as a slacker. On the other hand, if you’re cramming in 22+ units at the end in order to transfer, the UC’s will look down upon that. Just be aware. :)

As long as your not taking +15 units on your last semester

A slacker takes 12 units??

^^No, someone who is cramming a lot of units to make up for the 60 units is considered a risk and highly likely to be rejected

Ok, thanks. Like I said, I’m almost done with all my Gen Ed classes. I finished my English requirements and I’m sure being in Calculus II definitely fulfills the math requirement. Just gotta take care of Bio and Art.
