Do UCs show preference to instate or out-of-state applicants?

Title pretty much says it all.

In-state although the amount of OOS admits are continuing to increase each year.

The less selective campuses will be affected by the baseline eligibility thresholds (3.0 HS GPA for in-state, 3.4 HS GPA for out-of-state). These baseline thresholds are irrelevant for the more selective campuses where applicants with a 3.4 HS GPA are unlikely to be admitted.

UC weighted HS GPA calculation slightly favors applicants at California high schools, since some non-AP honors courses at California high schools may get +1 points.

Here are all of the actual admit rates for each campus last year shown as OOS, Resident, and International. It is changing each year as campuses modify SIR goals for each group. Some are increasing OOS such as UCSB & UC Davis and some are now leveling off such as UCLA and Berkeley.

I think that UCs have 20%-30% out of state students;however, in the next few years the amount of Californian students may be capped at what it was this year allowing for more space for out of state students because they pay more. Unless the UC’s get more money from Gov. Jerry Brown.
