Honestly, what happens if I don't take the TOEFL? I am an International Student and I've studied in the IB Programme for 5 years now and I am soon finished with the full IB Diploma Programme. I have also studied at an American Middle School in the US for two years. Currently I obtain a high grade in English A, Higher Level and I scored over 600 on my writing section on the SAT. I obviously don't see it as necessary for me to take the TOEFLs and many universities agree. However, there are some universities that I really want to apply to that require me to take the TOEFL. My quesiton is, what happens if I send in my application to these universities without a TOEFL score? Would they still consider me? I believe that my personal statement and academic scores would prove that I am perfectly capable of studying in the US but who knows what they think. Thanks for taking your time to answer.

Each college and university sets its own policy about the TOEFL. You need to read through the website very carefully to find out what they require that you do. If they require the TOEFL for a student in your situation, there is every possibility that if you neglect to send TOEFL scores your application will be considered incomplete, and no one will ever even read it.

Your options are simple: either take the institutions that require the TOEFL off your list, or take the exam.

You could contact them, many will waive the TOEFL requirement if you have a good writing score on your SAT, so I don’t think it would hurt to ask. If they say no, you could just take them off your list.

I suggest you read their TOEFL policies first, though, no college will like having to answer questions that are already answered in their website.
