Do Virginia Tech applicants select 2nd choice and 3rd choice majors?

Can students still apply for 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice majors? Hypothetically, if a student applies to one of the Engineering majors but doesn’t get into that major, can they still get accepted to University Studies or Finance if listed as 2nd and 3rd choices?

Only one choice of major last year. Does the application allow for more than one this year? You’ll know when you fill it out. Or you could email admissions.

VT no longer gives choice. I think you used to have a lot of people apply for engineering and put other major as second choice. Now its all or nothing. You get in your selected major (which can be University Studies-Undecided) or not.

Yeah, they saw that a lot of people in past years were doing the Engineering/University Studies combo when applying, so they wanted to stop that and give more spots to those that were actually undecided.

And I’m sure that also put a lot of pressure on the engineering department as those students would then start applying to transfer into engineering.
