<p>It depends on the school. Both DD's and DS's schools required the Profile and FAFSA for incoming freshman finaid. </p>
<p>DS's school did not require the FAFSA or the Profile for renewal of merit aid. For need based aid, the FAFSA and Profile were used ONLY if your financial situation changed (the year the second kid went to college we had to complete both forms).</p>
<p>DD's school required the Profile and FAFSA for incoming freshman for all aid. The school never requires refiling the Profile but does require the refiling of the FAFSA annually for all types of finaid (need and merit based).</p>
<p>So...check the school. Some actually do not require the Profile in years after the freshman year. Most require the FAFSA for need based renewal. Some require neither form for merit renewal. Some require both. It varies by school.</p>
