Do We have a chance?

My dd is a junior and will be applying in the fall for UT 2010. She is in the top 10% and got an 1810 on SAT. Does she stand a chance to get into the Business School or Natural Science School? She has a 3.70 GPA and lots of community service hours. She is also active in the numerous clubs and holds officer positions.

Thanks!

You don’t say where in the top 10% she is. She is guaranteed to get into the University, but the business school is another story. Basically, they start with the top 1%, then 2%, etc until they have filled 75% of their spots. At that point, the rest of the top 10% kids along with everyone else is fighting for the remaining 25% of the spots.

If she has only taken the SAT once, I would encourage her to do so again and try to pull it up a bit. As an alternative, she could take the ACT. They will translate the ACT score into an eqivalent SAT score. (My son did MUCH better on the ACT)

Natural Sciences is still competitive, but not nearly as much as the business school

Hope this helps!

Hi! She is in-state and an Austin resident. We will consider taking the ACT.

Thanks!

A friend of mine got into McCombs with a 3.75 GPA and a 1600 something SAT score. She is 7/152 students. Your daughter is doing very well IMO.
