Welcome to the University of California, Santa Barbara. As you may be aware, alcohol and drug use among college students is a national public health concern. As a new student you should be aware that UCSB has a Substance Abuse Policy that prohibits illegal or irresponsible use and clearly outlines campus expectations for responsible use of alcohol by those who are of legal age. In addition, the campus strictly enforces policies in our residence halls regarding alcohol or drug use and possession with consequences for policy violation. Using public records, we will also notify parents of alcohol and drug-related arrests and citations of UCSB students that take place in Isla Vista and other areas adjacent to campus. At UCSB, our policies and our education and prevention efforts are intended to create a safer and healthier living and learning environment.

As part of UCSB’s comprehensive approach to alcohol education and prevention, all new undergraduate students, both freshmen and transfers, are required to complete and pass the MyStudentBody.com “Freshman Alcohol Course.” (Transfer students may opt to complete the “General Alcohol Course” as a substitute for the “Freshman Alcohol Course.”) MyStudentBody.com was developed specifically for college students and provides personalized health information and interactive tools that are up-to-date and scientifically accurate. Whether you drink or not, alcohol use is an issue that affects the entire campus community, and the information provided in the required course will help you to make safer choices.

The required course must be completed by the end of the fifth week of fall quarter (by October 29, 2010) or a registration block may prevent you from registering for classes in future quarters. Please be aware that there is a limit on the number of times you can attempt to take and pass the post-quiz. All of the answers to the test are found in the course material you are asked to read.

Instructions: Before you begin the course, please review the information contained on the web page and carefully read the instructions. Only by following the UCSB-specific instructions provided for logging on to [Welcome to My Student Body](http://www.MyStudentBody.com) will you be able to ensure that UCSB is notified that you have completed the on-line course. You will need to enter the site as a “Registered User” using your UCSB u-mail address as your username and your date of birth (mmddyyyy) as your password.

Your username is: ********@umail.ucsb.edu

Your password is: Your date of birth in the format mmddyyyy

When you have finished the course (including pre-quiz, course content, and post-quiz), you will need to print or e-mail to yourself the certificate of completion to trigger UCSB’s notice of your completion. The only information reported to UCSB will be your name, student ID, start and completion dates, and certificate status, indicating a passing score of 75% or higher. All other responses are confidential. If you experience any technical difficulties in accessing the Web site, please contact techsupport@mystudentbody.com. If you have other questions, please email alcoholcourse@sa.ucsb.edu.
