seems like most people have minors... do they help at all? obviously if you're interested in another subject it's a good way to pursue study. but for grad schoo/jobs, do we need minors if we dont raelly care for one? it would be so much liberating to take a diversity of electives, or graduate early.

take a minor if you are really interested in that field, but just don't have time to take the full major. As to how much it actually helps, probably not much. THe point of a minor is just for you to explore a field that you enjoy but can't major in.

niceee no point in having one

hahah...get one namaste if you're really into it

A lot of people who do minors do them because they think they'll make them look more competitive, but really, I see little post-graduation benefit. If you're into the subject, by all means, do it. But don't do a minor just because you think everyone else does and it'll make you look better.

It's way better to focus on your major and do well than to be mediocre with a major and a minor. Although I've found that 4-year students have much, much more time to fit a minor in. It's more difficult for transfers.

Yeah; it sucks having to begin your UD courses in your junior year. I think I have some sophomores in my class, which makes me feel kind of like a loser.

That, and you have to try to plan for it while you're still at your first school. Which is really hard, because at that point alllll you care about is just getting IN, let alone preparing for a minor that you may or may not be able to do, depending on if you get in.

I THOUGHT I was adequately prepared with lower divs for a minor until I got here and realized, nope. And doing alll of the lower divs I needed plus the upper divs plus my primary major work plus honors wasn't. going. to happen.

So oh well.

what were you thinking of minoring in?

i was just thinking about a minor because it seems standard. but if it doesnt help much with jobs/grad school then theres no point. it would be better to focus on getting internships/jobs during school, taking less classes, and./or getting a higher GPA UNLESS you really have an interest in a subject to minor in IT SEEMS
