My son is preparing to send apps to his top choice colleges. Do we need to get offical transcripts sent from the cc where he has been dual enrolled, or is it enough to note the courses and grades on his homeschool transcript?

I defer to others about homeschoolers but for everyone else the answer is no - not for dual credit. Your high school transcript listing the dual credit cc courses and grades is fine and dandy.

We also sent the cc transcripts, along with his homeschool transcript. It does verify the homemade transcript and makes it possible for the college to award credit for the classes, if it is a college that does so. (For one college, we did not even have to request the cc credit; it was automatically given.)

Some colleges may give your kid the choice of applying as a freshman or a transfer. My son was homeschooled, will have approx. 38 hours of dual credit, so qualitfies as both to some schools, and transfer only to others. As a transfer he doesn't need to report high school (or SAT) at all. There are pros and cons both ways.

I plan to send ALL transcripts from all outside class providers (five, so far, in my son's case) when it comes time for my son to apply to college. That's usually explicitly asked for on application forms: official transcripts from all previous secondary and higher education.
