Do we still need to take GE classes after transfer to UC?

It sounds silly, but I'm confused... I'm transferring to UCLA. I finished my GE classes for transfer, but do we have another GE requirements after transfer?

Generally speaking, no. However some majors may require you to take certain upper divisions that aren’t entirely in your major (E.g. Political science: “Students are also required to complete four upper division courses (16 units) in one or two of the following social sciences: anthropology, communication studies (only Communication Studies 160), economics, geography, history, management (only Management 150, 190), psychology (except Psychology 115, 116), sociology.”)

no, that’s what the IGETC is for.

Depends. At UCSD each school has a few requirements…for example ERC makes you take 3 quarters of MMW which is a general ed class. Berkeley makes you take one AC class. Not sure about UCLA tho

I found out today that depending what major you are and your school, you might have to take upper division GE courses. They are different from the lower division courses we can finish at a junior college.

Smartyskirt has is right^^

Thanks guys!!!;)

you do actually, the GE classes u took was just for IGETC. However, UC required their student to fulfill their own UC GE category under specific major.

Actually, very few programs in the UC system require anything beyond IGETC. It’s mostly the Engineering schools that have their own GE system.
