Do you agree with admission estimate websites?

I went on this admission estimate website yourchances.net or something like that. It said I had a 50% of admission to Michigan State University (my top choice) but everyone I talk to (counselor, teachers, my chances page) say I am in. Do you agree with these websites.

My immediate answer is, absolutely not. Such websites prey upon our fear of rejection and our insatiable thirst for validation and comfort and thus I regard them with complete disdain, as we all should.

That said, I am unfamiliar at best with the procedures governing public school admissions and thus encourage you to weigh your transcript and standardized test scores with those of last year’s entering freshman to better assess your chances. Many public schools have clear GPA cutoffs as far as I am aware, so do some investigating! Unless you fall below the minimum requirements, your chances are anyone’s guess. Good luck, and do not be fooled by those ******** sites!

I think that these websites can give you a general idea of whether or not you have a chance, but they are by no means accurate. My child who is now going into her third year at U of Chicago, looked at a few of these for the heck of it and all of them told her she had no chance at all of getting admitted, yet she did. They told her that George Washington was an absolute safety, yet she only got on the waiting list there. So look at them without too much seriousness.
