Do you apply directly into the college of engineering at freshman app time?

<p>or do you apply to the university, then apply to the engineering program later after you had a chance to get a feel for the university?</p>

<p>i had a question on the following bolded line on the admissions page where it listed the factors considered for admission into Purdue. This implies that you (can) apply directly into some college/program, like engineering. If this is true, then what are the numbers of slots for engineering - what is the 'space available' for that program?

In its individual review of each applicant, Purdue considers the following factors:</p>

<pre><code>* High school course expectations
* Overall grades in academic coursework
* Grades related to intended major
* Strength of student's overall high school curriculum
* Trends in achievement
* Class rank
* Overall grade point average
* Core grade point average (English, academic math, laboratory science, foreign language, speech)
* SAT or ACT score sent from the testing agency (including writing section). Test scores must be sent electronically from the testing agency. When registering to take one of these tests, take advantage of the free reporting option to have the testing agency send your scores directly to Purdue (SAT School Code: 1631; ACT School Code: 1230).
* Ability to be successful in intended major
* Essay
* Personal background and experiences
* Information provided by high school guidance counselor (or other school administrator)
* Time of year the student applies
* Space availability in the intended program

<p>also, if in fact you do directly apply to the college of engineering at freshman application time, can someone point me to the profile of the last freshman class that was admitted into that college?</p>

<p>you apply directly for your program. but for engineering, you’ll be doing a first year engineering course, with the rest of the engineering freshmen. you can pick your specific discipline when youre a sophmore, subjected to your gpa (requirements are on the purdue website)</p>

<p>thanks . is there an academic profile of the last freshman engineering class?</p>

<p>Typically, those admitted to the First-Year Program are A and B students in high school. Students enrolled to the College of Engineering for 2010 had an average SAT in the middle 50% range of 1720-2010. Of the students that enrolled, 50% had a GPA between a 3.4-3.8, and an ACT Composite of 26-31.</p>
