Do you believe in a universal morality?

Or do you believe that your actions have only an arbitrary basis and not a transcendental one?

can you explain what you're talking about?

look, if Edward O Wilson, Ben Golub, and Richard Dawkins all agree, it's probably right that there is no such thing as universal morality

Do you believe that there are some general moral laws that [mostly] everyone should abide by?

I want to know how much of CC agrees with E.O. Wilson, Ben Golub, and Richard Dawkins.

Do you believe that there are some general moral laws that everyone should abide by? O, yea I DO!

What are those laws, Sheed?

Well, to tell you the truth, I'm hellsa religious so i believe that my religion is the "only" correct one....it goes from there.

"Do you believe that there are some general moral laws that everyone should abide by?"

Not everyone. But by the majority of the population (in order to ensure a properly functioning society) perhaps.

"everyone" is impossible - society still functions even though a small percentage of it has antisocial personality disorder

CC is ~50-60% atheist/agnostic. But it probably depends on the reasons why you're atheist/agnostic. Most atheist/agnostic Asians I know are that way only because their parents/cultures haven't been religious. This probably applies to most whites as well. A few people have actively pondered the question and I suppose that it's a significant proportion of these who would agree with them.

Please, elaborate.

being atheist/agnostic doesn't mean you don't have moral values

Read arbitrary basis and not a transcendental one

Atheism/agnosticism is (virtually necessary) but (not sufficient) to believe that moral values come from some material basis, not some basis from "high above"

Exactly.

No, there is no such thing as inherent morals. Morality is the result of very typically human judgment; just as nothing has inherent value (that is another human projection), nothing is inherently good or bad. It's more a result of cultural agreements than any universal state of nature. And we all know how much different cultures agree.

^ Well said. I whole-heartedly agree.

Atheist conservative. thats the way to go. :) I am ALWAYS correct lol.

Except when you're incorrect.

Does not happen much jk
