Do you believe in the existence of other mental states?

Do you believe in the existence of mental states other than yours?

Provide an argument, if possible.

not really

I'm kind of a solipsist. So I don't know.

This doesn't affect my behavior, as I'd be a consequentialist rational egoist irrespective

Yes. I'm happy right now, but sadness definitely exists.

That being said, I probably misinterpreted your prompt.

No OP, we will not do your philosophy homework for you.

He doesn't really have "HW" in the traditional sense of the word...considering he's homeschooled...lol

descartes, man.

The brainwaves have distinct states (although distinct is a poor word choice, as they mix together). So yes, the relevant biology has an interpretation and a positive answer for that question.

Even if one were to intuit against the proposition (that there are multiple states), I think the productive thing to do would be to search the cognitive sciences and re-interpret your question to fit the facts.

This is why it would be very difficult to say "no" to your question as it is. Is it a question you intend to refine?

Yes...just as much as I believe in my own past, or in causality. None of these can I be totally sure of besides the information I receive from sensations, but I must assume that my sensations are generally accurate (given internal consistency) in order to make any kind of action. Mitigated skepticism.

ambiguous wording

ignore pl0x
