Do you bring your laptops to class?

Or do you just keep em in your dorm?

I think I will next year to take notes because my handwriting is crap and I get really sore, so typing is both easier and clearer for me.

Yes, I take mine to some classes, but the majority of students don’t. It just depends on the college, I think.

Is it allowed?

Of course I do. For some classes, it’s way easier to take notes by typing than by writing.

Depends on the professor.

i definitely do. my handwriting sucks and i type very fast so its super easy to get all the notes down, even word for word if necessary for a few minutes. also, in classes that are super-boring, i play on the computer. and let’s be honest, everyone does it

If the professor takes notes too fast, can you bring a camera? Take pics of the Powerpoint slides or the notes on the board?

I do now. I didn’t in undergrad, but it is so much easier to synthesize my notes and pay attention while still taking notes when I have my computer.

I use Microsoft OneNote, which is a great note-taking program. It’s just like using a notebook - you can type anywhere within it and they let you draw lines and circles and stuff so writing equations isn’t difficult - and it automatically saves your work. There isn’t even a save button. Great so that if your computer crashes it’s all still there.

Note to students with .edu addresses, you can buy Microsoft Office Ultimate (with the regular programs – Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Publisher – in addition to other programs like OneNote, Groove, InfoPath, and Accounting Express) for $60. I’m sure most of you can get the basic package with the first 6 programs I listed from your school. I only bought this because it had OneNote and I really like this program, and I really wanted it and it was worth the $60 to me, since OneNote by itself retails for like $100.

The only other program I think that might be useful could be Groove, which is a teamwork/collaboration enhancer, but no one else I know knows how to use this and so I have yet to use it.

Anyway, this set usually retails for like $679, so it really is an ‘ultimate steal’. Here’s the website:

And I apologize for souning like a Microsoft ad, I promise I don’t work for them!

cool thanks
