Do you care about your school?

"People like me"? You started this. I said nothing about VT in my original post.

Old news but I'll throw it in for kicks. Marcus Vick, ladies and gentleman:

Sept. 2, 2003: Suspended for one game by coach Frank Beamer for undisclosed reason.
Feb. 17, 2004: Arrested without incident and charged with four misdemeanors -- three for allegedly allowing underage girls to have alcohol and one for allegedly having sex with a 15-year-old at a January party. Released on $2,500 bond.
May 14, 2004: Convicted of three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and sentenced to 30 days in jail and fined $2,250.
July 3, 2004: Charged with reckless driving and possession of marijuana after a traffic stop about 25 miles east of Richmond, Va. at 2:30 a.m. Police said he was clocked at 86 mph, 21 mph above the speed limit, and that the vehicle smelled of marijuana.
July 6, 2004: Indefinitely suspended from football team for off-field problems.
Aug. 3, 2004: Suspended from the university for the 2004 season on same day he pleads guilty to reckless driving and no contest to marijuana possession in New Kent, Va. Is fined $300, has driver's license suspended for 60 days and is placed in a first offender program on the marijuana charge, requiring that he perform 24 hours of community service, undergo drug counseling and random drug tests, and give up his driver's license for six months.
Sept. 13, 2004: In plea deal, pleads no contest to one misdemeanor count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Receives 30-day suspended jail sentence, is fined $100, ordered to perform 24 hours of community service and stay away from the teenage girls.
Jan. 17, 2005: Cleared to rejoin football team and re-enroll at Virginia Tech.
Oct. 1, 2005: Leads No. 3 Hokies to 34-20 victory at West Virginia, and makes obscene gesture to fans who have been calling him names related to past problems throughout the game. He apologized a day later.
Dec. 17, 2005: Pulled over by police in Hampton, Va. for driving 38 mph in a 25 mph zone and driving with a suspended license.
Jan. 2, 2006: Leads Virginia Tech to a 35-24 win over Louisville in Gator Bowl. In the game, he stomped on the left calf of Cardinals All-American defensive end Elvis Dumervil, the NCAA sacks leader. Claims the incident was accidental and that he apologized to Dumervil, who denies ever receiving apology.
Jan 6, 2006: Is kicked off team at Virginia Tech for legal trouble and unsportsmanlike conduct in Gator Bowl.

You may have beaten us by 38 in one football game last year, but we beat you by 55 spots on the US News rankings. Now, I've never been one to put much emphasis on USNWR OR football, but in this case I think we can be pretty sure which is more important. Hope you're having a good time at Special Tech. I'll be sure to say "hi" when I drive around to pick up my order from you at Burger King in 5 years. Yes, I would like fries with that.

I respect my school but I'm not all rah-rah about it. I don't own any tee shirts or hats, but I do have a cling sticker for my car and a few folders. We don't have a football team or anything so it's a bit hard to get into things, but I still respect the school.

It's not the same as in high school, where school spirit was a must for me. I have nine tee shirts, one polo shirt, three hats, two footballs, two cups, a mug, a seat cushion, a towel, two marching band hats, a duffel bag, five bricks from the middle school they tore down, four bumper stickers (none of which are on my car, they are other places) and a pencil that I still have out on display/wear/use. There is a pillow that I ordered a long time ago that will be coming soon (I ordered it when I was a senior). I also still have a parking permit in my car. A model of a school bus from my district is in my room. I bleed blue and gold (my school's colors) and am in fact wearing a tee shirt from my alma mater as I type this. In fact, I have more blue and/or gold clothes than any other color! Too bad my college is red and white.

For some reason I just had more school spirit in my high school years. And I still root for the teams--I went to two football games last year--plus I still use their auto tech department to get my car fixed (twice in the past month).

I think I might have listened to that Beach Boys song about being true to your school way too much...

As far as Vick goes, I'm not sure if this would happen, but could he sign as an undrafted free agent with someone? He sounds sort of immature, but maybe he could turn himself around if the right guys took him under his wing.

I adore Dartmouth, and most people here do too. Even though our sports teams aren't great (though hockey is quite good), everyone has a lot of school spirit. Its one of the only schools I know of where every student knows the alma mater by heart :)

"Wahoowa? That's so lame. UVA sucks."

THE FACT IS: Besides football, UVa is superior to Virginia tech in every way. There's no comparison.

I do understand your love for your own school though.

semiserious: I've already got a co-op with GE Aircraft Engines in the fall... good luck with the BK scenario. And I was merely responding to Untilted's comment saying "VT sucks" in his post. It had nothing to do with yours.

Oh, and VT students as a whole despise Marcus Vick. We were glad to see him finally get kicked off the team. He was at the Dolphins mini-camp last I heard. I doubt he'll ever start as an NFL QB though, maybe a WR (he's got a 4.3 40 or something crazy like that).

One of the reasons I love giving tours is that I can talk all I want about how much I love my school and why, and that's what people are there to hear! I do talk a lot about my school to my friends, but I stop when I sense they're getting bored.

Wow, it seems that a lot of people truly adore their own schools. I'm a senior in HS right now and I didn't go to a single game of any kind, drama productions, battle of the bands, etc. I have no school spirit and I never really liked my school. I respect my soon-to-be university at an academic level, but I wonder if I'll ever love it as much as everyone else?

my current HS is tiny and nobody has school spirit. I feel like I missed out on all that stuff so I made sure to apply to schools with a lot of sports, energy, and school spirit.

im already proud to be a trojan for life. USC baby!

My DUKE Class of 2010 Sticker is already displayed proudly in my car window!

I love my school even though I havent started yet, i love wearing all my DePauw t-shirts and wristbands and stuff and telling them its a top tier LAC.... i just hate explaining that im going to depauw not depaul

I'm content with my school.

benderunit: You'd be surprised how fast school spirit can grow on you. When you see a bunch of people wearing your school's logo everywhere, it catches fast.

surprisingly, I have something to agree on with a Hokie.

I have to say I had no school spirit in high school and none in college. I don't really understand the phenomenon.

i had none in high school but i have some in college now. by no means am i the guy that paints his body at football games but i do have a decal on my back window.

meh, my school seems ok. Bucknell...it's sad that I don't really know the school colors

I'm ambivalent with my school...Vanderbilt. Could be better. A lot of my friends seem to like it though.

i LOVE my school and all the spirit we have. seeing the campus explode with our school color (ORANGE!) really made me love it that much more. its great :-)

<3 SYRACUSE!

I'm excited about my school, and I'm not even there yet.
Oh goody.
