Do you contribute to class lectures/discussion?

I talk a lot during class, esp history, because it's interesting.
I imagine that a lot of you though are the quite types who just sit there and absorb information.

I could be wrong though? what are you like?

I tend to provide input for the really difficult questions after the class has sat there completely bemused for 10 seconds and the teacher pleadingly looks at me. ;D

I don't really like answering the questions that everyone knows, lol, it's rather boring...

Oh, and I usually act as an antagonist to the opinions of others in the class -- case in point, a book we recently read in Lit had everyone praising the character for his "valiant" suicide and determination, and when it came my turn to speak (we were going in a circle) I called it (~) "a disgustingly pointless waste," lol... (among other things)

I only like answering questions that no one else knows, too.

I get really active in class discussions in some classes, and say nothing in others.

It really just depends on how much caffeine I've had that day.

Hahaha Doomster, you totally sound like meee.

From another thread:

So, yeah, I like to contribute useful info and divergent opinions. I like to play Devil's advocate, not only in matters of opinion but also concerning trivial stuff... for example, sometimes I'll defend people's "incorrect" answers to test questions, even when the one I put had been marked as correct, hahaha.

ALSO I've this HORRIBLE habit lately of correcting my teachers and sounding like a total jerk!!! Like, usually I try to be all respectful when correcting teachers (usually I phrase it as a question), but a few times lately things have just popped out and sounded SOOO rude. But the teachers have either not heard or laughed, so it's all good, lol.

If it's just answering a question, I usually don't participate. It's too boring. But if I have a chance to debate or argue my opinion, then I'll jump right in!

I'm the class clown in 4 classes, when I choose not to sleep (which is about 1/2 the time).
I say some ridiculous stuff and sometimes it gets the teachers annoyed, but good thing most my teachers are chill so it's not that bad. I'm active in discussions, in terms of being notorious for straying away from the topic. I don't really volunteer for a legit answer unless like, no one knows it, or I just feel like it sometimes.

The other 1 is PE...and no discussions there. I'm athletic, and the class is filled with non-athletic noobs, so a couple athletic friends in that class and I always get to laugh/bs stuff and still own them.

I don't feel like talking about the last class.

My classes have an average of 12 people in them... and the teachers tend to call on everyone... so yea, I talk in class. Especially in my English class- participation is worth 1/3 of the grade!

My classes don't seem to require that much participation. The teacher doesn't stand there and ask us a lot of questions really, but if there is a question, I'll raise my hand to answer. If volunteers are needed, I'll go. I've got a lot of small classes this year filled with people who are really interested in the subject (as in, not required classes) so everyone usually participates.

It depends on the class. I barely say anything in English, and I usually don't talk a lot in history classes. Somehow, though, in AP Gov/Econ I got a reputation for knowing random trivia (date of Pearl Harbor, Clinton's '92 catchphrase, etc.), so I get called on a lot in that class.

Yeah, I'm essentially with the majority here, in that I only contribute when others don't.

I struggled mightily with this is APUSH last year. Although my APUSH teacher was excellent and knew the material much better than most APUSH teachers (he took an MC portion of the test at some training conference and got > 70/80), he was a bit weak with some specific facts. I hated correcting him on them, because I didn't want to diminish his authority/make him look weak. He was, fortunately, open to it, so I never felt bad after I did it. Now that I think about it, I believe he also mentioned that on his rec letter, so lol, it was probably a good thing to do so.

Moodrets^ this is exactly like me :)

The only class I have in person this semester is English. No one else seems to ever knows the answer to anything! It is amazing. -_-

My English teacher actually lectured the other classes she teaches about how I'm the only one she thinks is prepared for college and that she doesn't think anyone else at my school should take college classes in high school. Can you imagine that?

She tried to put groups together to work on writing based on reading level/grammar placement tests at the beginning of the year. She told me "Look, you are way on the right of the bell curve. Everyone else is way on the left, and I have no one in the middle. Just please try to work with the group." I had to proofread my groups papers... some one wrote "They conclusioned that...."

Does this sound like an honors class to you?

/rant

I hardly ever participate. I think it is mostly because I am scared of giving a wrong answer or just sounding stupid. lol But I do talk to my teachers a lot; just not in discussions.

English class- It's pathetic- It'll be my voice resounding through the class room. My english teacher cannot pronounce anything and I hate to correct her- like this one time- she pronounced synecdoche as sykDO. Me cringing And when I told her the correct pronounciation- she GLARED at me for 5 secs and said sykdDO again like she thought only what she says was correct.
Since then, I've stopped responding to her pleading looks. :D

My participation is graded in Spanish. I lose about 4 points a week for that. I still cannot figure out how you can get a A in participation. By the way, its also weighted like 15%.
