I know it sounds kind of dumb, but do you? Or do you actually do your homework without copying?

I’m gonna be completely honest.

English: Copied once, on an Animal Farm chapter review. Only copied 4 sentences.
Spanish II: Never but I let everyone in the class copy mine
AP Euro: Hw is essay outlines and reading questions. I copied 2 questions once, but I let others (even strangers) copy mine every morning.
Chemistry: Never copied, have let others copy many times, and surprisingly they wanted to even knowing that chem is my worst subject.
Precalc: Copied once I think. Never let anyone copy me cuz no one asked. It’s kinda hard to copy math since you need work. Its almost just as easy to do problem on your own.

Overall I never mind letting others copy. You never know when youll need them.

I don’t copy others, I just ask them what they wrote (just to give me an idea of how to write it), but for a very few times I let others copy mine, especially the more difficult questions (never english hw though).

I let people copy my homework, because I frankly don’t care. In the end, it’s their loss. On the other hand though, I don’t copy other peoples’ homework. For one thing, I know that they aren’t exactly happy with giving away their work and effort to parasites. But more importantly, it’s a matter of principles and ethics.

I go to a fairly non-challenging school. If I don’t know it, other people don’t know it either.

I do depending on subject. I couldn’t really care less about homework as long as I feel comfortable with topic. So I’ll do a couple problems to make sure I get it, and then copy the rest.

Only when I don’t understand and it is being graded and when I have too much.

Can’t say I never have, but it’s always really menial things when I do. I’m not the person who will copy like a full page report or some really grueling math problems, but if it’s a simple worksheet for which I ran out of time or something, then I might copy my friend’s. I let people copy my work if they ask too. It’s not a big deal to me. It’s not like either of these things occur on a frequent basis. My two best friends and I used to always split vocab for this one class and copy and paste, though. Good times haha.

I only copy math homework when i forget about it but thats about it

I’ve been a frequent copier of math homework up until this year. This year, I have a teacher that actually cares to teach math, so I care to do work. I’ve never had much of a problem with copying or letting others copy, but this year I’ve been much more serious and have just done all of my own work. Occasionally I’ll copy some stupid APUSH worksheet but that’s pretty much it.

Science and maths occasionally if I forget to do it, but teachers have been more lenient this year (attitude of: it’s your exams to fail at the end of the year) so the repurcussions for not having work aren’t that bad, so I prefer to just give it in late than copy.

Homework copies me.

Beeda1995, I am not in high school, nor do I have kids in high school , but I work with students, and have a son who was sort of in your position, so I am curious. Can you expand on your position? You don’t care about feeding “parasites” because it is “their loss”, but “more importantly, it is matter of principles and ethics”? I’m sorry, but I want to understand.

I’ve never copied homework (that I can remember), but people always try to copy from me. In the past, I didn’t care if people copied my hw. Now, it kind of annoys me that I do the work and then they get to do nothing. So, I’ve pretty much stopped letting people copy :)

Only if I forgot about the homework.

I was considered the smart duck in the class. I received alot of attention from classmates, and I am VERY reluctant on giving them my work. However, my closest friends are the ones I believe deserve them because we watch out for each others backs. I give him answers and i copy answers from him. We have a mutual bond between each other.

However… If I see that others help me out… I help them out.

@Shrinkrap

All right, let me elaborate. The reason I do not bother with parasites who like to copy their work is that I am positive it will return with more harm than good. Homework is given for a reason, which is to hone your skills and give practice, or increase your knowledge in a particular field, so if you copy it, you’re ultimately wronging yourself. However, in the case of an exam for example, I do my best to not let people copy off my paper, because I’m not particularly fond of studying the night before for hours and giving it away.

Although I’d let others copy my homework, I wouldn’t copy other peoples’ homework. Not only for the simple reason that I know people don’t like it when other people take their work, but also because I think it is immoral, wrong, and going against my principles. I don’t think you should copy or plagiarize anywhere.

The truth is that this kid, your son, and a few of the others are scared of confrontation and looking like the nerdy smart kid because everyone picks on the nerdy smart kids.

Thems just the facts, whatever cognitive dissonance they have going on doesn’t matter.

@Beeda1995: I think that copying homework once or twice isn’t really the end of the world. Have I done it? Yeah. Once or twice. Am I a “parasite”? No. It’s definitely not plagiarism, because plagiarism is stealing someone else’s work without their permission. To copy one’s homework, you generally have to have their consent, because it’s not like looking on someone else’s paper on a test real quick to get an answer.

And if you really want to go in the “principles and morals” zone over simple homework, fine. If you let other copy your work, you are just as wrong, because you are “feeding” the “parasites” so to speak. You could say no. If it goes against your principles, then why do you let people copy yours? Doesn’t really make sense.

I let others copy my homework sometimes, because it’s not really that big of a deal. It’s not hurting me at all, especially if it only took me 5 minutes to do in the first place.

I have no problem with people who had issues at home, or genuinely forgot about it. These people copy once or twice, and are generally hard working ethical students. But what about those who never come with their work ready? Can that really be justified? I do have to concede though that I am wrong by feeding the parasites though.
