Thanks mom!
Sellers do not have ratings, but you are not charged for the item until you accept it, which you do online when it arrives. If it never arrives, you don’t pay. You can rate a seller at that point and offer comments, but I don’t think the ratings are available to buyer. Poshers are very good about shipping promptly (unlike etsy sellers, for instance), and Posh has some deal with USPS that their packages arrive in two days.
@oregon101 they do take Paypal (which I love because I am lazy).
Here is a tip - if you “like” an item most resellers will come back with an offer within 24 hours of a lower price plus lower shipping. I woke up to two offers this morning (which I will probably take).
When I sell I usually just keep the money in my Poshmark account for when I want to buy something later.
It sounds like the purse you are looking at may be “like new” with tags rather than brand new. I tend to look closely at the adds that say New with Tags for the tags that cannot be so easily removed and replaced. Unfortunately, most high end brands (especially purses) have tags that can easily be removed and put back on. I have a leather Coach bag that I received as a 25 year anniversary gift from my company. I kept the tags and plan on reselling it eventually without the tags attached but with photos of the tags as proof of worth and authenticity (although I know we can be scammed that way too).
Thanks for the tip about “liked items”. I had them for 2 items, so lowered the cost. I’ll let you know!
I missed this thread when it was new - thanks for the helpful info. I’m not having much success, but I‘m not putting any effort into it, either. The commercials make it sound easy. Take a picture, post it online, and pretty soon you’ll have enough money to pay for a family vacation. Or a wedding, lol.
My problem is I don’t want to spend time promoting my stuff, doing the virtual parties, sharing my account on Facebook, etc. My items consist of jewelry from one of my daughter’s bad boyfriends (which I offered to sell for her), a few purses, and one new with tags MOB dress that I found in the back of a closet. I must have intended to return it but can’t remember even trying it on.
I priced items in line with past Poshmark sales, and I’m willing to negotiate, but the offers I get are far below the asking price. There’s a nice pair of 1/2 carat diamond earrings, which were appraised and have a replacement value of $800. I know that means they probably would go for $400 new, so I asked $250 and would happily take $200. Similar items have sold for more on the site. But I’m getting offers for $100, $65, $40.
I’m going to use the helpful info here and hope for better results.
My friend and her D use Poshmark and like it. I don’t do online anything like that, I don’t have a paypal account even. I lost some weight and gave two brand new suits to this friend. Now I wonder if she will sell them… I really hope that they fit her and she wears them, but if she sells them, good on her. I could use the money myself but can’t be bothered to deal with online selling.
I sell on Poshmark - I wait until my balance is over $100, then I transfer the $ to either my S or my D bank accounts (alternating) - it gives them a bit of extra spending $ throughout the school year
@frazzled1 , I don’t recall the content in the earlier parts of the thread but have you tried just selling those items on eBay. Seems like it is more straightforward. My H has an eBay business and this time of year (really all through winter) he sells more than any other time of year.
As an avid used clothes buyer, I’m Team eBay all the way.
Excellent search engine, ability to create Saved Searches, fast & pleasant transactions (99% of the time), and I love the Buy It Now option.
After sitting on Poshmark for almost a year, the earrings are sold! Thanks to the two nice CCers who PMed me about them, one of whom purchased them today. My daughter will be so pleased to have them out of her jewelry box. And the extra cash won’t bother her, either.
It’s so rude when a seller has something marked for ie $100 and they are offered $20
These days, I don’t even bother countering such an offer, I just automatically decline or ignore it.
Right or wrong I have the same attitude when I’m selling something on eBay - when someone low balls an offer that is reasonable I don’t even counter - just decline and move on!
I considered Poshmark for an expensive item I am selling, but decided on TheRealReal since they do all the work. I will report back on how that goes.
