Do you enjoy looking up colleges that you have ABSOLUTELY NO INTEREST in attending?

Just curious. I have to say, a fun part of this college admissions process is just seeing the many, many options available for college.

In fact, I will often find myself looking on college websites and looking up academics/student life sections just for the sake of it, seeing what there is to offer! I mean, while I may not be realistically considering attending Coe College (just an example), I decided to go to coe.edu just to see what they had to offer. I mean, that college is life for 4 years for hundreds of students...why not just check it out? See what their library and cafeteria look like?

lol, does anyone know what I mean or have I gone crazy? I mean, I was just on the University of Nebraska's website just to check it out!

btw, reading my post over i just wanted to make this clear: while i may have no interest in attending, coe and the university of nebraska are great schools...they just don't happen to be a college i've even thought of attending.

I might look up a few Ivies or big name schools to check out what's up with them even though I probably won't be attending one :p. Or schools of friends....that's about it. I barely have enough time to research and manage my own schools, never mind extras.

I like looking up the reaaaally crappy ones.

Example: Paul Quinn College (located in Dallas TX).
Median SAT score = 1020/2400. Grrrrrreat success!

I looked up Mount Holyoke, Deep Springs, and Tuskegee for research projects for AP US. I'm an Asian guy who hates manual labour.

Not really.

But I did look at TONS of schools when I was picking and choosing where to apply. I looked up most every school that I got mail from.

YES! This is me! Finally someone with the same addiction! I think I've read the entire Fiske guide and imagined what it would be like to attend so many different schools, even though I've already been accepted ED somewhere. Now that I've been accepted I try to hide my Fiske/College ******* Guide reading from my parents because I'm afraid that they'll think I'm regretting my ED application/acceptance. Before I got in, they just thought I was weird for staring at it. I'm seriously trying to figure out if my school would allow me to take one semester at another school and then come back if my credits transfer... I love my school, but I just can't destroy my curiosity.

I love looking at the Facebook groups for different schools and wondering what it's like for them. But I mainly just read about schools in guides, and look around on here. Once I decided to look at UD's (Delaware) website and figure out what freshman seminar I would take, where I'd live... wow I really sound strange. I absolutely love just imagining being at all these different schools. I'm particularly interested in bigger public schools where there isn't as much academic pressure... where I live, there is pressure to go to a "big name" school, so I'm looking at like the University of Southern Carolina, the UF, UGA... etc. How much fun would it be to go to a totally random school down south where people aren't out to impress by going to an Ivy? (I'm going to UPenn). What I hate most is when a school's website doesn't have a nice campus tour. If a school's website is lacking, .com, theu.com, and sometimes *********.com are all very interesting for me to look through.

Wow we should talk. Seriously.

EDIT: wow, it **'s out the names of websites about colleges... I referred to u-n-i-g-o, c-o-l-l-e-g-e-p-r-o-w-l-e-r, and s-t-u-d-e-n-t-s-r-e-v-i-e-w.

sometimes i do. but generally not. if a school bombards me with mail, i usually eventually crack and look it up just to see what they are about even if i dont have any interest in them.

a perfect example is IUPUI. i became really curious as to when and why Indiana and Purdue combined in Indianapolis. thats really all i looked for though

its not that hard.

wikipedia!

I try to keep up to date with schools in my hometown area (Philadelphia) so I can be more informed about them and encourage people to go there.

Hmm, yes. Especially since college guides have them all in one handy package, I like flipping through and reading whatever catches my eye.

Their 25th percentile ACT was 8.

Really puts things in prospective for me. I was all disappointed in myself when I got a 27, but that is still like the 90th percentile.

No, because I feel that if I do I'm jinxing my chances of going to the school I want to go to! haha.

I confess. I do this all the time. Surprisingly, it has helped me through the college search process and now I can pass along all my knowledge to other students.

I did this a few times. I personally like looking up my state school's websites. Most state schools in Florida are so bad, though none comparable to Paul Quinn College. Haha.

But now I only look up schools that my friends got into.

University of Guam FTW!

Yeah, I definitely do this!

And now I need to look up Paul Quinn College... wow... getting an 8 is some kind of statistical anomaly, but having that as your 25th percentile is absurd.

i usually look up the schools my friends get accepted to. and then i try to find as many reason as possible why their school sucks because i'm jealous of them.

You have to wonder, how could that possibly be better than community college?

Isn't it like impossible to get under 12?

Didn't a trained monkey get a 14?

Paul Quinn College | Campus Explorer

7% Acceptance Rate???
