Do you ever get calls from kids at colleges?

I'm a senior, to make this clearer.

Today I got a call from a kid at the University of Minnesota, because I apparently showed interest at some point, and he just called "to get to know me better." He asked a lot of questions, and I could hear his keyboard (I assumed he was recording my answers.)

And like a month ago, a student at UIUC called and said she was from some leadership group there, and she just wanted to chat it up for like half an hour and learn about my interests.

As nice as it is that they do this, I find it incredibly awkward and uncomfortable.

Does anyone else get calls like these? What's the point of them?

Thank you for the call. I do not answer personal questions over the phone. Please do not call back.

Students and alums typically call AFTER you’ve been accepted, to answer questions you have and be friendly.

It’s weird that they’d call you so soon.

I’ve had these experiences too, but I had caller ID. So usually the first time, I’ll pretend I don’t have time and check the number online to see whether it’s a scam or not. If not, I usually answer their questions the next time they call back.

I got a call once, but it was from a school in which I had no interest. They asked me about interest, sending mail, etc. I had to say no, so we said goodbye.
I thought it was really nice, and if it had been from a college in which I had interest, I would have thought very well of their doing that.

it’s happened to me twice, and it makes me really uncomfortable. then again i have this weird fear of talking on the phone with people i don’t know well

Some dude from Pace called me asking me if i wanted information about the college, i just hung up. I have no idea how they got my name or number, never even showed interest.

And my tour guide from Bucknell wrote me a handwritten letter, nice little touch.

It’s happened to me, but never for a school I was actually interested in.

Don’t hate too much on these people… It’s a job and a lot of kids do it to help put themselves through school.
