Ladies, i'm specifically wondering about bras, but i'm also interested in how everyone cares for merino wool, silk, etc without running up a high dry-cleaners' bill.

Thanks!

I’d say half my wardrobe is comprised of delicate fabrics. If it CAN be handwashed, it gets it, and I just hang it on the back of a chair or something. Bras don’t really need it, they’re usually fine on the gentle cycle in the washing machine, then just hang dry after.
Some things really do need dry cleaned though. For those, just wear them for as short of a time as possible, then hang up. You can get away with wearing something for a month like that.

Thanks princessmahina! For handwashing, do you just go to the bathroom and fill a little basin with water and detergent?

Yup. I wash the sink out, then put a few drops of concentrated laundry detergent in it before filling it up. Just swirl the clothes around in it and rinse it. If it’s ok to wring it, do that, then just hang:)

I just avoid wearing anything that would need to be hand-washed…

I have several hand wash items. I have a little bucket that I take with me to my laundry room and I wash whatever needs it while my regular clothes are in the washer. I have more things that I hang dry, and those I hang on extra hangers in my closet.

Thanks sparkles! That’s exactly what I needed.

I don’t buy anything that needs to be dry cleaned besides coats and suits. I wash delicates in a mesh lingerie bag right in the washer with everything else, that’s never been a problem. I hang dry everything. I bought a collapsible garment rack that I set up on laundry day to dry my clothes.

By the end of the year I was fed up spending a fortune on laundry and I started hand washing everything in my bath tub or my sink.

You’ll find innovative places to hang dry things

Edit:…uh… not bras… sports jerseys

i hang dry my denims and shirts. i machine dry everything else…t-shirts, boxers, socks, ect.

No problem! Just one little note… if you bring something that can’t go in the washer, make sure to check if it says “hang dry” or “lay flat to dry”. I have several cardigans, for example, that I lay on a towel on my bed to dry because they’d be ruined if I hung them up. Good luck!
