Do you ever wish you went to a different high school?

yeah I do! I don't like being with kids who don't really want to learn, I dislike most teachers' lack of motivation to help kids out, that money goes to sports and not academics, and also the ridiculous rules my school puts into effect.

What about you?

Well, I would like to have more people around me who really want to learn [so many people in my school go to school because they have to, and do the bare minimum to get by], but being surrounded by people just like me would probably get a bit grating after a while :)

Definitely, I dislike the unhealthy competition, the smart kids who ruin curves, and the teachers who give insane amounts of homework. We should switch schools.

Yes, I wish that all the time. I've even gone so far as to devise a high school exchange student program in my head. It would be great if students from uncompetitive high schools could see what it's like to attend the CC-esque suburban mega school, and vice versa.

I feel okay about my school, we have the smart kids ruining curves problem, and they act like people who don't take at least one honors class are inferior. They are generally also ignorant towards race and gender, so sometimes I wish I went to a school where people were more understanding.

See, in my school, all the smart kids who ruin curves graduated this year. In my graduating class, there are kids who are fairly smart, but not smart enough to completely destroy a curve. Often if the majority of the class does bad, so do they.

I hate my school. the people are mediocre, the teachers are average, and my grades are outstanding... But only because the classes are ridiculously easy.
I'm applying to private, boarding schools for my sophomore year and hopefully I get in with all the FA I need. If so, I can live out my dream- getting the hell out of small-town, small-school hell!

No. 10char

Yes! I wish I was in a more ethnically diverse environment. Also, I wish there were more smarter students. For example, I am considered really smart in MY school, but compared to the other people on CC, I'm nothing more than average.

ILikeFood -- personally, I hate it when kids whine about other kids "ruining curves." instead of wanting someone else to not do their best, how about just studying harder?

And yeah, my school has its priorities all over the place. Sports gets a disproportionately large part of the budget, while our science classes make do with 20 year old equipment. When the teachers went on strike, one of the services they withheld was college recs. Kind of lame if you ask me.

Yes definitely my school is sooooo competitive its unbelievable. We have so many friggin geniuses. Pretty much the top 5 percent of the school could of been potential valedectorians in other schools.

Absolutely. I didn't really care what high school I went to out of middle school, but I can definitely see that I made a huge mistake by just picking the closest school. It's not that it's super competitive or anything like that. Heck, it's actually quite the opposite. I just don't feel at ease in my school's environment.

Ha - only always.

No one in my school has ever even HEARD of competitions like AMC, Olympiads, etc. - we don't even have APs (or IB). ZERO. Our guidance office's only goals are to keep kids from dropping out to get GEDs and getting kids into the local (and very mediocre) state university. Our students are essentially screwed when it comes to wanting to go to any remotely high-up college before they even enter 9th grade. And the best part? We're not a poor community, so colleges don't see our students in any light of "overcoming adversity".

Yes! My school is not competitive at all. Football and basketball are the number one priorities, and most of the students don't care about their grades at all. A lot of my teachers don't know what they're talking about (e.g. I corrected my English teacher last year when she didn't add a comma in a compound sentence. She argued with me about it for five minutes.), and most of our math teachers are only teaching so they can coach football. We hardly have any APs...I could go on.

my prep school frustrates me at times :)

Only for the increased availability of AP classes. Other than that, my high school is everything I want from one.

Yes, in some ways. However, overall, I am pretty content with my school despite it being overly PC. I would love to have more AP classes at my school, but the courses that my school offer definitely make up for the lack of AP classes.

Every once in a while I wished that I went to a school with a marching band because I always wanted to be in a marching band.

Other than that, I loved my high school, flaws and obnoxious people and all. Best years of my life.

Sometimes; I wish my school would have more EC's that I'm actually interested in.

yeah alot. I wish my province would get out of this ridiculous 3 year HS system, it practically ruined my college application as an international. there are no competitions or Olympiads even mentioned. most of these things I learned about from CC. I wanted to switch to an all-IB school but the commuted would drain so much of my time that I would only have 5 hours to do homework/study/daily things.

what frustrates me more is that my school is moving to a fancy newly built location THE YEAR AFTER I GRADUATE!
