Do you get vacations in college?

Do you get Summer vacations in University?
When do they start/end?
What other holidays do you get (Christmas etc.) How long do they last?
Thanks a lot.

My winter break is from Dec. 18th to Jan. 21st. I think Spring break this year is March 8th-16th. I also get two little four day weekends, one in the fall and one in the spring. I got labor day off this year as well.

In college, you miss out on all those stupid little holidays like Veteran's day and columbus day, but winter break in college is longer than a high school winter break.

Summer is also longer. Usually about 3 1/2 months. The problem is whether you will have opportunities to take advantage of the vacations. Usually I am studying, going to summer school, or working during those breaks.

sorry to get off topic, but i wouldnt call veterans day some stupid little holiday.

We get 3-day weekend for Labor Day, a week for Thanksgiving, like 3ish weeks for Christmas break (Dec 13-Jan 8), MLK Jr Day 3-day weekend, and a week for Spring Break. Summer break is like May 9 to August 18, but alot of people take summer classes myself included. If you go to summer school, you get Memorial Day and 4th of July off, and like a week and a half in between spring-summer and summer-fall.

Fortunately, I'm only going 1/2 summer this year, and I will be studying abroad during it, so I'm major excited.

Of course you get vacations! In a lot of places they close the dorms during summer & winter vacation to force the students out.

The times & lengths of the breaks depends on the school. I'm on the quarter system which means my breaks are totally different from most people who are on semesters. (3 quarters per academic year - the "4th quarter" is summer)

My Summer break is from ~June 15 - Sept. 30th.
Winter break: Week of Christmas & the following week
Spring break: 1 full week in the end of March
You get all the standard government holidays off: MLK, president's, labor, memorial, thanksgiving (thurs & fri), etc.

You can get on most school's sites and they have the academic calender up.

Well, we don't get president's day off, pearlinthemist, but all the rest of those yes. I would also second chuy and say just go look up the academic calendars of the schools you're interested in, OP. My school has theirs up through Spring 2009 right now, and I'm sure most others at least have it up for the 2007-2008 year (fall, spring, summer).

I go to Colorado College which is on a block schedule. We take one class at a time for 3 and a half weeks, and then have a five day "block break" to ust do whatever. Our third block break is Thanksgiving (wednesday-sunday), 4th block break is from December 19-January 21 (winter break), and 6th block break is spring break (a week and a half in March). In addition to this, our summers are about 2 and a half months long (mid May-labor day). Because of the block plan, we never have holidays like columbus day off.

*** kinda question is this? Of course everyone does in practically every country.

No work over the vacations correct?

i believe the only breaks that you wouldnt have work over were winter and summer because theyre inbetween two different semesters (if youre on the semester system). but just because its thanksgiving doesnt mean professors wont give you work.. i had tons over columbus day and a huge presentation worth 50% of my grade due the tuesday we got back from thanksgiving. im sure spring break (and easter break) will be the same.

and since i go to a jesuit school we also get an easter break in adittion to spring break. we get the thursday and firday before and the monday after off. not sure if its the same for all catholic/christian universities
