Our seniors from last year came back to talk about college and they were stressing how you have to go to class (or else you might fail)- i was like well yea it is school lol. are these people dumb or do you skip class 2? If i'm paying 40000/yr for school you bet im going to class lol :)

I've missed more classes than I should have this past semester. Sometimes you'll be in a class where the lecture is just fluff that you won't need for papers or tests, though. It'll be very tempting to miss classes, but I wouldn't recommend it. A calculation has actually been done. At my school (Georgetown), it costs $150+ (don't remember the exact figure) to miss one class. Kind of a scary thought...

wow... i'd hate to go there.

I only missed one class the whole semester, and that was by choice. I took a trip with a club and had a blast. But, definitely attend all the classes. Professors make announcements of changes to the syllabus, and other important things that can affect your grades. And ya, it wastes money to miss them too.

No, no, we don't literally get charged to miss class. But with out our total cost of attending, it is calculated that each class costs about $150+. So if a student or parent is paying for school expenses out of their pockets, it would be like wasting over a hundred bucks for missing class. Lol - we don't have to pay out extra money to miss class.

i missed a lot of classes this past semester.. it wasn't that i juts didn't feel like going, i just had a lot of stuff come up. i missed my first day of classes because of a funeral, i missed classes another day because i was sick, and i missed them one other day because i was sick. i didn't go to my one night class a few times, because it's art stuff and i just worked on it at home instead. and i ended up with a 3.75 for the semester, so it didn't hurt me at all.

I missed so much of my classes this semester. even when we had hw some ppl used to knock my door and handle it for me and I ended up sleeping.. I regret it. My gpa dropped so badly, I dropped from 3.86 to 3.4 . I did bad in midterms but worked my a$$ off in the finals. My advice is try to go to EVERY single class u have. It will always make u aware of whats happening and trust me, most of the exam questions come from the professor explanation during lectures and not just books (at least the classes i took were like that) .I learned a lesson and I will never miss a class ever unless I was hospitalized or smthg lol.

i didn't miss a class at all this semester, i'd be afraid of missing really important stuff if i didn't go

I only missed two discussions and they were when there was no quiz or anything and there was absolutely no point in going. And I got an A+ in that class. But other than that, I didn't miss any classes. 0:)

within a couple of days you would know whether or not it would be wise to go to class or not. some teachers talk about stuff thats not in the book and you would be tested on that stuff. other teachers teach str8 out of the text so you could afford to skip those class. is

I had calc for 4 hours a week 1st semester, and I prolly did an average of 2.5 hours of calc a week, including class time (I didn't open the book except for exams), so I went to between 2 and 3 classes a week, out of 4... not so good. All quizes and exams were on Thursdays, so that day was always a must attend.

Spanish I went to every class except 1 when I was sick.

My seminar I went to every class.

Chem I missed like 3 times during the semester.

Now, this is important. There are some classes that you CANNOT skip. My math teacher changed the syllabus, and moved an exam from a Thursday to a Wednesday, and added a quiz on a Monday. This is also the reason it's important to make at least a few friends in your classes, so they can hook you up with important information like this. A kid on my hall skipped his math class the day a professor gave out a take home exam, so he copied the questions from another kid, but he only copied the first page, and there were two. Not good.

In general, it's a good idea to go to all your classes. It's really easy to go back to sleep in the morning when your alarm goes off and there's no parents to actually make you get up, and the consequences of missed classes don't show up right away, they come on the exams.

Wow, I haven't missed a single class at Wake thus far. Ndbisme, stretching that tuition dollar as far as it will go since 2004. I actually don't see the allure of skipping a class. I had three hours worth on MWF and 1 hour or so on Tues and Thurs. This isn't really high school, at around three on MWF I'm through and at 12 I'm through TT. If you have a really early class, then the temptation is always there.

Never miss a class. That's what I'm here for.

Missing a class doesn't mean I don't care or I'm not taking my education seriously.

I understand why people miss class. A lot of my classes (4/5) were fluff the majority of the time. But I forced myself to come on time to every single class simply just not to get into a bad habit. And I guess there were a few times it was beneficial because of announcements. But my college uses this online program where they post the assignments, announcements, and grades so that really makes it easier for people to miss class.

a lot of my classes included attendance in the grade... though some teachers never took attendance while others did each class, just depends on the prof really

I've been hearing a lot about some classes just having a lot of "fluff" in them. If the prof. isn't teaching anything relevant, how do you do well on the exams.

sometimes I skipped my 9:15am astronomy class, b/c it was a COMPLETE waste of my time, except when we had quizzes and tutorials(tests were given at around 6:30 and 7pm). The professor showed slides and basically reread what we had to read in the text. There was NO point in going to class. The lectures had NO impact on what we needed to know on tests and quizzes. You'll find that there are many classes that are like this. Read the chapter, and you can get a 100 on the test.

and if you want more info on this class, go to ratemyprofessors.com, go to DC then Georgetown University, and find professor matthews.

Professor Matthews seems to be a University favorite.
