I have been trying to get rid of the hair on my legs, for hygiene and convenient reason. I started shaving at first, but the hair grows back after 1-2 days. I just tried using waxing strips today, and it was such a hassle. I don’t mind the pain, but some hair are really persistent and wouldn’t come off. The worst thing was how the excess wax was really a pain to remove. The oily strips that comes with the box to remove the wax didn’t work very well. I had to use some extra oil and a lot of soap with hot water to wash them off. It’s so time consuming, and I doubt I can do that to both of legs every month. I spent over 10 bucks for that stuff, and now I feel like I wasted money for nothing.
Shaving is easier, but it doesn’t last long. I heard hair removal cream isn’t very good, either. So should I stick to shaving? What do you do?
As a guy, I can tell you that one of the greatest things of being a guy is not shaving your (Insert part of the body here), and I don’t think any of my friends (guys) have a problem related to shaving.
I wouldn’t mind shaving my legs, but I have to use shaving cream when I shave so that means I have to throw away a razor every time. I don’t know if it’s a good idea to use up one every week like that.
The shaving cream shouldn’t mean you have to throw the razor away. Rinse it well, dry it off (carefully!), and if you really want it to last longer, put a tiny bit on vaseline on the blade after drying it. Throw it away when it doesn’t seem sharp anymore.
But the cream and hair always stick to the blade, and rinsing it with water doesn’t flush them out. Even if I try to wipe them off with a thick paper towel, some of them will stick remain. I am afraid that if I use them, I might get a cut and possibly an infection.
Have you tried tapping it gently on a hard surface? It’s definitely unusual to throw away razors after every use. Sure, some hairs might get trapped, but it shouldn’t be so much as to be detrimental to use. What kind do you use? If you use the cheap disposable ones, yeah they might only last a short while. Also, don’t overuse the shaving cream. Try getting a razor with five blades if you aren’t already using one. Also make sure to dry thoroughly, as that residual moisture is what dulls the blades. Getting nicks is typical every once in a while, and has more to do with your actual shaving than it does your razor.
I’ve tried hair removal creams (Nair, Veet etc.) but they weren’t really for me, because I found that I had to leave it on a lot longer than the instructions said and kind of scrub a bit for them to actually work. It ended up taking longer, and damaging my skin more than just shaving (and the results didn’t last that much longer either).
I’ve tried waxing because it lasts longer, but I found that it’s a bit messy, and sometimes, stubborn hairs aren’t removed. I decided to just deal with regrowth by shaving every day or every other day.
To be fair, I think I’m also on the fast side of how long it takes me to shave. I currently use the Schick Intuition Razor, which has a soap thing attached, meaning I literally just run my razor along my leg a few times. It probably takes me less than a minute.
Also, regarding the hair not rinsing out completely: a little bit that you can’t rinse out shouldn’t affect your razor’s performance. I don’t think it would raise the likelihood of a cut or infection unless you’re using the razor for so long you make the blade dull.
It’s not just the hair, the cream is stuck in with them as well, making it a mess. I can only wipe them off with a thick paper towel and shave again and then throw it away.
Perhaps I should shave dry without the cream? If the hair is short, I shouldn’t need to use cream, right?
I’m with the people that say you shouldn’t have to get rid of the razor after you use shaving cream… What about the veet cream where it isn’t white and fluffy but more like a soap-y conditioner thing? YOu could also just shave with soap- that what I do; and just use a lot of lotion after- coco butter lotion works well to keep skin hydrated. I have thick hair and because of it I buy Dr. Schick 5 blade razors. I’ll even buy the 6 blade gillete mens razor- those are more expensive but work really well
