Well this year I signed up to take 5 AP classes(I also take pre-calc and honors French):AP Bio, AP US, AP English Lang, AP Macro, and AP GAP. I've been keeping up with all of my work and doing relatively well in most of my classes except for AP Bio. I usually spend around 3-4 hours a night doing hw and studying for bio but I've been doing TERRIBLE on the quizes and tests. I'm thinking of dropping it because it also cuts into the time that I need to study for my other classes. I'm just scared of dropping it and switching into Honors Bio because I don't want to seem stupid. My parents are all dissapointed with me and they've been in a bad mood ever since I told them that I want to switch and I'm going to let down some of the teachers who encouraged me to take 5 AP's. I don't know what to do. I know I should not stay in the class because its too challenging for me. Any advice or similar scinerios that anyone wants to share...

well i did that last year and i think if u know u cant handle it and get a decent grade then u should drop. just take it next year. you might be jeopardizing your gpa like i did…and i would recommend not to do that.

Only you know. . .

never not drop a class because you will “seem stupid”.

The answer to your original question is yes if you let others make you feel bad. Look, NOT ONE respectable teacher will push you take 5 aps. And if your parents are disappointed in you for wanting to drop one then that’s their issue and they need to deal with that (I suggest professional help at that point). Your mental and physical health is not worth keeping others happy so do what you want and drop down.

Ya, no one here can really help. It’s all personal preference. It’s possible to take 5, I am actually taking 6. You won’t seem stupid just because you drop a class.

Haha, so our AP Latin shirts are going to say “Epica Ruina” or “Epic Fail” on them and have Icarus falling. That’s because on the top of our translation quizzes we always used to put “epica ruina”…

I know its very possible to take 5 or even 6 but like you said it depends on personal preference. I’m just too stupid to handle them.

No, don’t degrade yourself. You’re not stupid. Be content with who you are and what you can handle:)

You don’t have it too bad lol. My bio teacher hates me because she thinks I got old work from the one student I didn’t get work from. She does everything she can to take points off of my labs.

Too bad tests are multiple choice and I got a 100 on it. It was my way of saying “f*** you, I am smarter than you ever will be, bia***”

Probably the most satisfying A+ in my life.

Haha, chenman, it’s sad when a teacher discourages.

Haha I mean theoretically she has the right to do so since I do have all the labs and notes from other students…but she has no clue about that. The person’s stuff she thinks I have I don’t have, that is what is annoying.

Ah well…tests are weighted 65% so I still have a cool A- and it is senior year…doesn’t really matter.

If you have to ask…

I seem to be posting this a lot…

Your teachers don’t care whether you are taking 5 AP’s. None of them will lose a second of sleep over it. Remove that from your consideration.

If it will between bad grades in 5 AP’s or good grades in 4, make that clear to your parents.

I think you can handle it. If you really are putting 3-4 hours of good, SOLID effort into bio every single night, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be making a good grade. In fact, that’s a pretty huge chunk of study time for just one class. Bio is all about knowing the facts, and if you can really dedicate yourself to learning them in timely fashion, you will do just fine. So, I don’t see why you can’t handle it. Bio is not really a conceptual subject, at least at the high school level. You know your stuff and you get an A.

Though, if you really can’t handle it. Drop bio and put your GPA at the top of your mind. Make it clear to your parents that dropping that class will benefit you, not hurt you.

none of the people on CC know what you are thinking.

it’s up to you.

So, today I dropped and let me be the first to say, ITS A VERY LIBERATING FEELING!!!

wonderful.

not that there’s anything wrong with that

It’s become my new mantra when on CC. I now have the perfect response to all threads that fit at least two of the following three requirements:

ask a yes/no question

require knowledge of personal circumstances we cannot know

are petulant and/or needy
