That’s where I did it was camping. I haven’t camped as much the last couple of years. I’m going to be changing that though. I also have a similar setup in my backyard but usually defer to the propane or charcoal grill at home unless one of the kids wants to cook something on the fire.
As for unusual, perhaps not, I’d bet it’s not exactly commonplace for this particular community though.
When I was young, our immediate family camped as we drove across the US from the Florida Keys, to CA, to east coast and parts of Canada- visiting family and national parks, etc.
Lots of KOA campground memories. I thought it was super fun as a kid. (And brother was a Boy Scout and I was a Girl Scout so a fair amount of camping in both those arenas, too.)
FF and now and hubby and I have been married 30 years. Hubby is fabulous in a zillion ways but he is NOT one keen for a camping experience. He feels that we would be extremely vulnerable safety wise. So we don’t camp.
But I do recall making fire with leaves with my magnifying glass as a kid; so maybe I’ll start a disaster plan supply with one of those, lol?!
Ahhh… sweet memories… when we were fresh out of grad school and dirt poor, that was our way of upscale vacationing. Once we ran out of cash by the end of the road trip to CA and on the way back (we were denied every credit card we applied for!) we were frantically counting change to pay for our KOA spot making sure we had enough left for gas to get back home. Dinner that night was very glamorous… leftover crackers and a chocolate bar. A nice BofA cc with a generous $3k credit limit was waiting for us in the mailbox upon arrival. We could’ve had a fancy dinner at Denny’s if it had arrived before our trip!
(When DH and I were first dating, we were traveling from FL to NC (so that I could visit a possible grad school, lol) and we hit multiple Denny’s for all you can eat breakfast meals.)
Love fun memories of just being together and having adventures.
Nope—we have done our roughing it as scouts and scout leaders. We prepare as best we can but won’t fight the zombies, just do our best. If that’s not enough, we’ve led a great life!
A 10 yr old girl found alive after disappearing on a wilderness hike. She knew that she needed to stay warm through the night and then followed the river.
