I know I do. I am convinced that my French teacher has held a grudge against me for the longest time. When I do something wrong, he tends to get angrier at me than at other students. For example: today in French class, I forgot to do my French homework. Normally when students does this, my teacher just yells at them and tells the student to make up the homework by the next day of he/she gets a 0 for that homework. Homeworks are 10 points each, so a 0 on one of them wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. However when I forgot my homework today, my teacher took it to another level. He not only gave me a 0 for the homework, he told me that if I don't make up the homework, I would get an automatic 0/100 on the next French test. That's 110 total points, which amounts to a very large portion of the quarter grade. He even said that I could go to summer school if I "continue to slack off." This was the 2nd or 3rd homework assignment I have forgotten in his class, including the 1st semester, and he already is saying I'm destined for summer school. (I have OVER a 90 average in his class, so his "threat" doesn't worry me). Other students in the class even noticed the unusual harshness of his punishment and comments. He has come down hard on me before, so I have always sensed a grudge. The sequence of events today in French just reaffirmed my assumptions.

Does anyone else have a similar problem with a teacher?

Haha, you're a nice kid Chaos. They don't hate you. They do hate ME though.

Like today. Wow, total hatred.

I find that if you work really hard in a class, teachers will like you, even if you fail every test. But they really hate the kids that ace things and then slack off...

My Spanish teacher hates me because last year I slept through her class everyday and still maintained a B.

This year I've stayed awake and score everything above a 95 and she has given me only a B+ for an average. she justifies it by saying I don't participate...*** 10 points off for not participating? I also participate btw.

Regarding the original topic, I think that we cannot make generalizations about which type of student is liked and which type of student is disliked. There are several factors that can affect how a teacher views a student, the most prominent of which are past experience with similar students and bias\personal assumptions. You cannot say that a certain person lacks a certain quality that makes him\her disliked, because teachers, being human (hopefully ;)), can dislike a student for seemingly irrational reasons.

The best thing to do in this situation would be to:

1) Be yourself.
2) Oblige with the teacher's policies.
3) Generally, be well-behaved.
4) Do not take anything personally.

-I've been caught sleeping in her class 2 times now.
-I never turn in any of her ridiculous work.
-I bomb tests.
-I don't participate in class (I don't understand anything lol)
-She yelled at me for getting in a group of 4 for a lab, when we were supposed to be in groups of 3.

You can bet I won't be taking AP Chem next year.

My SS teacher two years ago. I would sleep through her class and still score 90+ on every test she gave. She hated me for that. And when I asked to be moved into the AP class she called me "too stupid" to handle it. But when we took the 10th grade New York State Regents, I scored a 97. Which was better than most the kids in the damn AP class. She also gave me an 83 average...for not doing class work/participation. Which was ********.

Sorry, didn't mean to butt in. Since I'm an elementary school teacher, the title of your posting caught my attention. I'm always curious about the students' viewpoints.

If I may say so, your teacher sounds like he's playing fast and loose with the school's academic policies. If you were my kid, I'd advise you to go to a VicePrincipal and ASK (don't accuse), "Is it school policy to fail a student on a test before he takes it?" Surely they'll say "No," and then you can say (AND YOU MUST OWN UP TO THIS PART, because they'll ask the teacher...) I have been not turning in my homeworks lately (don't you dare say "forgetting" --that's just silly at your age), so of course gettting zero on them, but there's a make-up policy on missed homeworks, worth l0 points apiece. I guess my teacher was trying to make a point, but he told me if I didn't make up a homework, my next test would earn me 0/100, no matter how well I do on it. I usually do well on tests, so I'm concerned."
And leave it at that. My guess is the teacher is using the wrong approach and waving something in front of you that the school's academic policy wouldn't allow.
You could also say the teacher doesn't appear to like you, BUT SAY THAT"S PROBABLY B/C YOU MISS HOMEWORKS, like others do. Don't dwell on that. It'll just protect you when the administrator talks to the teacher, which he surely will do, because that's an OUTRAGEOUS thing to threaten a student with, IMHO.

My Spanish teacher used to hate me. My school's gifted program requires you to miss a certain class every week. Well, with all my other classes being APs or honors, Spanish was the obvious one to pick. However, my teacher didn't see it that way...as she obviously thought her class was just as important (can't totally blame her).

So we REALLY didn't get along first quarter. She even brought it up to my parents during parent-teacher conferences with some statements about me that were nearly lies.

Didn't want my grades to suffer, so I sucked it up and talked it out with her and cooled the situation down. Everything's good now.

Yeah my English teacher this ear hated me and our school has a teacher that hates everyone. I dont know anyone that has had her class and has not gotten lunch detention or ISS

My Art teacher freshman year really didn't like me for some reason. I worked my @$$ off in that class (I was actually one of the very few that actually did something) and really thought out each of my pieces well. It may not seem like a vital class to most of you, but art is my passion and pretty much the only thing that I consider myself good at so a B+ in that class really hurt me.

I can be very blunt and strongly opinionated. I think my Euro teacher boosted my borderline grade to an "A" last semester because he didn't want me to give him Hell for the next 1/2 year.
